Abstract: Circuit means absorbing counter-electromotive voltage generated by a vertical deflection yoke coil DY while scanning period is provided in a vertical deflection driving circuit of PWM method. Because a MOS transistor TR4 for pumping-up switching is on while scanning period Tt′, current flows through a channel: a diode D3 connected between source and drain of a MOS transistor TR1 for driving, a capacitor C3 for pumping-up, TR4, and a ground line (GND line) so that counter-electromotive voltage Va of power source side is absorbed. On the other hand, it is possible to detect retracing period Tr′ and to make a pumping-up circuit on by providing the comparators 23 and 24 for pumping-up.

Abstract: A color display device comprises an electron gun, a display screen and a color selection electrode as well as a deflection means. The distance between the electron beams is dynamically varied, i.e. the distance between the electron beams in the deflection plane decreases as the beams are deflected in at least one direction. The decrease of the distance enables the distance between the color selection electrode and the display screen to be increased in that direction. As a result, the curvature of the color selection electrode is increased, which has a position effect on the strength, doming and microphonics of the color selection electrode. The distance is dynamically varied by first and second means, the first means being arranged in or near the pre-focusing parts of the electron gun. Said first means comprise magnetic means outside the neck of the CRT for generating dynamically varying magnetic fields, and magnetic field conducting means to conduct the fields to a position near the electron beams.

With respect to the direction of overlapping a plurality of split picture planes, only correction factors at representative signal levels are pre-stored as a basic factor table. Any of the factors at the other signal levels is obtained by performing an interpolating operation using the basic factors in the basic factor table. The value of the signal level of a video signal referred to when the correction factor in the overlapping direction is obtained is changed by using a shift factor associated with the pixel position in the direction orthogonal to the overlapping direction. Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for equally aging a cathode ray tube (CRT). A video input terminal is coupled to the CRT and receives an external video signal. Control circuitry is provided, which detects the aspect ratio of the signal and determines whether there is a mismatch between the signal aspect ratio and an aspect ratio of a display screen in association with the CRT. If a mismatch between the signal aspect ratio and the screen aspect ratio exists, an equalization video signal is derived from the external video signal. A primary region of the CRT is illuminated in response to the external video signal, and a secondary region of the CRT, which would otherwise be unilluminated in response to the external video signal due to the mismatch between the signal aspect ratio and the screen aspect ratio, is illuminated in response to the equalization video signal. In this manner, the CRT is uniformly aged.

  • Patent number: 6359397
Abstract: In a deflection yoke for use in a color cathode ray tube receiver, two sets of sextuple pole coils formed of bifilar windings are disposed around the orbits of three electron beams emitted from an electron gun of a cathode ray tube. Horizontal-period parabolic currents produced in a bridge circuit consisting of saturable reactors are caused to flow in such sextuple pole coils. Further the parabolic currents are modulated at the vertical period by the saturable reactor. Then sextuple-pole magnetic fields are generated by the modulated parabolic currents to thereby exert vertical force on the three electron beams, hence realizing proper correction of &Dgr;VCR to consequently optimize the balance between the corners and the center of a screen. Such optimization is conventionally difficult due to some restrictions existing in the winding distribution of a vertical deflection coil and a horizontal deflection coil in relation to convergence and focus of side beams.
