Straightedge Type Patents (Class 33/403)
  • Patent number: 4409873
Abstract: A plurality of straight-edge sections may be joined together by connector pieces. The connector pieces and straight-edge sections incorporate cooperating ribs and channels. The connector piece incorporates ribs with provision for flexing. When the connector pieces forced into the straight-edge sections a wedging jamming relationship is established that holds the straight end sections in aligned relationship. The undersurface of the straight-edge sections incorporates parallel slots which cooperate with rails on a taping flange. The entire assembly may be positioned on the workpiece by the use of the plurality of taping flanges secured to the work surface by adhesive tape.

  • Patent number: 4388764
Abstract: A template guide for use with a parallel motion protractor or drafting machine having a substantially flat elongated base member with a longitudinal ridge extending substantially parallel to the edges of the base member and projecting normal to one surface of the base member, the ridge dividing said base member into first and second portions, the first portion being of a size efficient to cradle a drafting template and allow a drafting template to be moved longitudinally along the ridge parallel to a drafting arm of a parallel motion protractor, and the second portion being of a size efficient to cradle the drafting arm of a parallel motion protractor such that the ridge extends parallel to the edge of the drafting arm, and means for releasably securing the base member to the drafting arm such that the ridge is maintained parallel to the edge of the drafting arm.

  • Patent number: 4369583
Abstract: A device for plotting points on a drawing surface comprises a number of separate parts which are assembled on the drawing surface to produce a drawing instrument which covers a required angular range. The parts include a pivot boss which may be taped to the surface with its cross-wire over a given reference center, a radius arm which is pivotally mountable on the boss, and a plurality of interlocking protractor segments having an angular scale. The radius arm has a detachable radial distance scale, a vernier angular scale, and also a small hole for plotting positioning arcs on the surface. The protractor segments are separately attachable to the surface and may be positioned with respect to the center by means of the said positioning arcs. In an alternative embodiment the radius arm comprises a radial distance scale member with a pivot member clamped to one end and a vernier angular scale clamped to the other end.

  • Patent number: 4357755
Abstract: A column pad layout fixture having a pair of intersecting cross-arms and a third arm fixed to the intersecting pair of arms. An anchor bolt layout having an elongated rod and a cooperating cross-arm. A method of placing and fixing an anchor bolt plate accurately in a mass of concrete freshly poured into an excavation located at intersecting column center lines to provide a base for a single vertical column of a line of columns. A method of laying out a rectangular or square area upon a plane or flat surface.

  • Patent number: 4233741
Abstract: The device has a semi-circular housing 10 defined by a linear wall 14 and an arcuate wall 12, with an inturned edge 13, 15 on one side of the housing. Beta light strips 18 are located in the recess beneath the edges 13, 15 so that graduations on the internal walls of the housing can be viewed at night through an opening 16 in the housing.

  • Patent number: 4190960
Abstract: A navigational plotter which generally comprises a rectangular elongated member comprising two straight edges and having a circular protractor rotatably secured thereto in the geometric center. The rectangular elongated member has a plurality of distance scales formed along and adjacent to each of the two opposite longitudinal straight edges thereof. These distance scales correspond to, for example, statute miles, nautical miles or kilometers, and each scale is spaced apart from the other to provide between adjacent scales a clear, unobstructed course line window which permits the navigational plotter to be placed over or adjacent to a course line on a chart without obscuring it. The scales along one longitudinal straight edge of the navigational plotter can correspond to the scaling of, for example, sectional charts, while those along the opposite longitudinal straight edge can correspond to, for example, the scaling of the WAC charts.

  • Patent number: 4159571
Abstract: A device having two scales, one for vertical height and one for vanishing point distance, that permits perspective drawings to be made without the need for the actual plotting of the vanishing points; and that permits vanishing points of any distance apart to be used in any size drawing. These two scales are mathematically related and are linear in graduation with said graduation being of any convenient size or nomenclature as long as the relationship between the two scales is maintained.
