Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for handling transition errors is presented herein. The transition errors include handling unreported time base discontinuities during trick mode transition, miscalculated time stamps during trick mode transition, erroneous sequence end codes, and unreported broken group of picture transmission. Unreported time base discontinuities are detected by comparing the program clock reference (PCR) value of the data packet to the system time clock (STC). If the difference exceeds a predetermined threshold, the STC is set to the PCR value. Miscalculated time stamps are detected by examining the difference in PTS values between temporally adjacent data packets. If the difference is not within a margin of error from predetermined value, the PTS is disabled. Unreported broken groups of pictures are handled by skipping the first two B-frames of the first group of pictures following a trick mode transition.

  • Patent number: 9013631
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing and displaying caption information associated with a video program are provided. The caption information is extracted from a video signal and different captions are rendered in sequence for different segments of the video program. A plurality of the different captions is blended in a form for simultaneous display superimposed on video images during one of the different segments of the video program. The different captions may be the latest caption corresponding to the current segment of video and a previous caption corresponding to a previous video segment. These different captions can be displayed such that they overlie each other and such that their opacity is different. In this manner, a viewer is able to have a prolonged period of time to read captions and can readily distinguish the current caption from the previous caption.

Abstract: The present technique relates to an information processing apparatus, a method, and a program allowing for easily controlling video synchronization in image data transmission. The information processing apparatus according to the present technique includes a synchronization cancellation unit configured to cancel synchronization between synchronization timing of a network to which image data are transmitted and synchronization timing of the image data, on the basis of a delay time of image data transmission, an adjusting unit configured to adjust synchronization timing of the image data of which synchronization with the synchronization timing of the network is cancelled by the synchronization cancellation unit, and a synchronization connection unit configured to synchronize the synchronization timing of the image data, which is adjusted by the adjusting unit, with the synchronization timing of the network. The present technique can be applied to, for example, an information processing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8957972
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and tool that performs glass-to-glass testing of a test AV system. The test AV system may be a transmitter device that senses AV stimuli and transmits an AV signal to a receiver device that displays video and provides an audio out/speaker of the audio. A light source and a sound source may be placed at the transmitter device. A light sensor and microphone/direct audio out connection may be placed at the receiver device. The automatic test tool may cycle synchronized light/sound stimuli to the transmitter device and measure the delay/latency times for audio, video, and AV synchronization at the receiver device. The automatic test tool may be comprised of a computer running user interface/test management software connected to a low cost FPGA that controls the video/sound sources and sensors to accurately measure both video and audio glass-to-glass latency/synchronization in a continuous, automatic, and self-calibrating manner.
