Abstract: In a method for recording telephone conversations between a subscriber to a service provider and a telephone conversation partner, the subscriber dials the number of the service provider and interacts with a menu-driven IVR user interface, entering his subscriber number as well as a corresponding PIN-number to authenticate himself. After the verification, the subscriber can chose one or more of the following options: (a) listen to one or more of his previously recorded telephone conversations, (b) delete one or more of his previously recorded telephone conversations, (c) arrange that all incoming and outgoing calls are to be automatically recorded, (d) deactivate the setting that all incoming and outgoing calls are automatically recorded, and/or (e) record the next telephone conversation. At the beginning of each conversation to be recorded, the service provider informs the telephone conversation partner, via a warning voice message, that the telephone conversation will be recorded.

Abstract: A method for computer control of online social interactions based on conversation processing. A portion of a conversation with a given user is recorded, stored in memory, and processed so as to influence subsequent interactions. These may include audio or other contextualized annunciations of subsequent telephone calls. Other modes addressing conversational processing for social purposes can result in interwoven conversation guided among threads of interest, advertising and incented participation of conversational content and placement. The invention is capable of implementation in telecommunications systems such as cellular, local exchange, and VOIP, and in combination with other forms of internet-based telecommunication, including smart phones and adaptive forums chat rooms.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems and methods of personalizing a self-service option for customers. Customers are identified at call inception and the self-service channel is personalized to tailor the caller experience based upon information specific to each customer. The systems and methods of telephone channel personalization is company/provider driven, which allows the provider to control and personalize the caller experience based on criteria set by the provider. The telephone channel personalization systems and methods determine what choices to present to the caller (i.e., in a speech self-service application—what to say and how to say it). A personalized self-service channel reduces call time and enhances the caller experience and therefore is an attractive option for businesses utilizing a call-center model. The personalized self-service application caters to the needs of a particular customer and appears to the customer that the provider knows why they are calling.

Abstract: A communication device having a communication module as data circuit-terminating equipment connecting to a wireless packet communication network, and a controller interposed between the communication module and a data terminal equipment. The controller controls communication performed by the data terminal equipment using the communication module. The controller extracts, from a communication message sent from the data terminal equipment to a first management server, identification information of the data terminal equipment, stores the extracted identification information in a storage, and transmits the extracted identification information to a second management server by using the communication module when communication is not performed between the data terminal equipment and the first management server.

Abstract: A method of routing messages may include providing a listener registry of a plurality of listeners and associated namespaces so that at least one namespace is associated with each of the plurality of listeners. A message may be received from an originating application, and the message may include a message namespace. The message may be stored in a message queue, and a determination may be made to determine if a listener from the listener registry is associated with the message namespace. If no listener from the listener registry is associated with the message namespace, the message may be stored in a parked message queue separate from the message queue. After the message has been in the parked message queue for a predetermined period of time, the message may be deleted from the parked message queue.

Abstract: A permanent, secure, on-line electronic repository (i.e., electronic safety deposit box or virtual safety deposit box) where a member/customer can store personal information (in electronic form) is provided within the confines and behind the security layers provided by a financial institution such as a bank. Features include catalog functionality for easy management and retrieval of data, access control facilities for the owner to designate other individuals authorized for access, event-driven access dedicated privacy with a subset space for shared elements with the bank (provider), and survivorship functionality with regard to disposition of contents, and intelligent retention rules.

Abstract: A method for providing an audible prompt to a user within a vehicle. The method includes retrieving one or more data files from a memory device. The data files define certain characteristics of an audio prompt. The method also includes creating the audio prompt from the data files and outputting the audio prompt as an audio signal.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for monitoring the quality of a communication session with a first electronic device. Should the communication session degrade, rather than dropping the communication session the user of a second electronic device communicating with the first electronic device is prompted to wait while an attempt is made to improve the quality of the communication session. Similarly if the user of the first electronic device moves out of a coverage area, rather than dropping the communication session the user of the second electronic device communicating with the first electronic device is prompted to wait until a new communication session can be established.

Abstract: A method in one embodiment includes storing a voicemail message in a mailbox of a recipient, the voicemail message being left by a sender, and then electronically receiving one or more attachments from the sender. The one or more attachments are stored as content associated with the voicemail message. Upon accessing the mailbox, the voicemail message and the one or more attachments are provided to the recipient. Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a user interface overlay. In one embodiment, a toolbar remains visible and can be selected at any time to activate the interface overlay. The interface overlay provides an easily visible list computing options, such as contacts, that overlays the entire display area. The background of the overlay may be semi-transparent so that underlying windows are still visible, but the list is highlighted. The list includes selectable display elements with display characteristics, such as size or color, that indicate one or more attributes associated with the corresponding computing options, such as a frequency of interaction with certain contacts. In one embodiment, groups of contacts can be sorted or filtered by the attributes before display. Each selectable display element identifies a contact and may indicate a current availability. A user selects a display element to initiate communication, such as an instant messaging chat session.

Abstract: Systems and methods for recording a communication session between a customer and an agent are provided. In this regard, a representative method comprises: routing a media stream associated with the communication session based on information corresponding to routing criteria, wherein the routing criteria include call control protocols or policies; receiving the media stream associated with the communication session from the customer center communication system; and recording the received media stream.

The point of care communication device may be, among other things, a nurse call station or console. Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for synchronizing transcripts and recordings of a bridge conference is described. An audio file recording of a bridge conference is accessed as well as a transcript of events associated with the bridge conference. The transcript of events associated with the bridge conference is synchronized with the audio file recording of a bridge conference such that a user can utilize the transcript to navigate to a desired place in the audio file recording of a bridge conference.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for implementing automatic answering and recording in videophone services. The method comprises: when a video call is coming, a called terminal automatically answering the call and playing a prerecorded automatic answering prompting message to a calling user; and the called terminal recording audio and video of the calling user and ending the call after the recording is completed. The present invention has solved the problem that a videophone has no automation answering and recording function in prior art. Thus, the user can answer selectively video calls at anytime and anywhere, important video calls can be automatically recorded, and video calls which are inconvenient to be answered can be answered automatically by choosing various videos.

Abstract: An improved conference calling system that operates to correlate a conference call with other conference calls, along with collateral information pertinent to the conference call, and deliver the correlated information to conference call participants or other entities. When setting up a conference call, a reservation system interface enables a user to not only schedule the conference call, but to also enter information that can be used to (a) correlate the instance conference call with previous or future conference calls, (b) set up for the recordation of the conference call, (c) set up for the delivery of the recorded conference call through one or more media channels, and (d) provide the recorded conference call as well as any related collateral and correlated conference calls to various parties.

Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for tagging the seen/not-seen status of an instant message. A method for tagging a seen/not-seen status of a real time message can include receiving a real time message and presenting the real time message through a real time communications client disposed in a host client computing device. The environmental characteristics of the host client computing device can be inspected to determine whether the real time message has likely been reviewed. As such, if it is determined that the real time message has likely been reviewed based upon the inspected environmental characteristics, the real time message can be tagged as seen.

Abstract: A communication system provides a user with the ability to redirect telephone calls to a voice chat account and vice versa. In one example, a voice chat gateway may receive communication requests and determine whether communications directed to a first party is to be redirected. If so, the voice chat gateway may reroute the communication request to an appropriate destination. For instance, a user may request that all communications such as telephone calls be rerouted as a voice chat to the user's voice chat account. Alternatively, a user may request that all communications including voice chats be redirected to a telephone number. Users may further be allowed to call a voice chat account through a telephone network and initiate a voice chat with a telephone number through a data network.

Abstract: Voice data from speech start till mute are transmitted as a section voice file to the opposite side voice data transmitting and receiving system, thus permitting voice data transmission free from voice interruption. By transmitting voice data from the speech start till the mute it is possible to eliminate packet losses in the data transmission channel and perform voice communication in the same voice quality as in the transmitting side. Besides, because of the use of HTTP communication port it is possible to obtain voice communication exceeding the rooter without any special setting.

Abstract: In system and method of prioritizing a voice mail message, a voice mail message is received comprising caller information and chronological information, a voice mail priority is associated with the first voice mail message based on at least one of a matching criteria, a call history criteria, a chronological criteria, a frequency metric, and a missed call value, and a voice mail list is ordered according to the voice mail priority.

Abstract: A method and system for providing desired media when a Push-To-Talk (PTT) over Cellular (PoC) User Equipment (UE) retrieves media information stored in a PoC box and requests a desired media transmission in a PoC system. In the PoC system, the PoC UE sends, to the PoC box, a request for media information stored in the PoC box to receive media stored in the PoC box. When receiving the media information request, the PoC box sends the stored media information to the PoC UE. The PoC UE selects desired media using the received media information and requests a PoC box media transmission. The PoC box sends the requested media to the PoC UE.

Abstract: A system and method for establishing guest mailboxes. User input to partition a voicemail box of a user is received to create a guest voicemail box. The voicemail box is partitioned to create the guest voicemail box. An access number is established for the guest voicemail box. The guest voicemail box is removed based on an expiration.

Abstract: Hybrid communications voicemail systems and methods are disclosed. A wireline telephone number may be operatively associated with a wireless telephone voicemail box such that calls placed to the wireline telephone number and subsequently routed to voicemail may be routed to the wireless telephone voicemail box. Thus, the user of both wireline and wireless telephones may check voicemail messages at a single wireless voicemail box. Parents or supervisors may check voicemail messages or converted text messages deposited for children or employees at the single wireless voicemail box. A wireless telephone user may allow calls to be routed to his/her wireless telephone from his/her wireline telephone if he/she cannot be reached at the wireline telephone or as designated by the user.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for providing pre-call-connection messaging services to calling parties. In at least one embodiment, a first call-setup request is received from a calling party, reflecting a request that an active call be set up between the calling party and a called party. Responsive to the first call-setup request, at least one network device starts to attempt to establish the active call between the calling and called parties at least in part by transmitting a second call-setup request to the called party. Prior to receiving a response to the second call-setup request, the at least one network device starts to record a message for the called party while continuing to attempt to establish the call. If the active call is not successfully established prior to an affirmative termination of the message recording, the recorded message is thereafter made accessible to the called party.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for enhancing a phone device such as a cell phone by automatically linking/associating caller identifying information with voicemail notification so that the phone's user (callee) receives notification of which missed call(s) generated a voicemail/SMS notification. The voicemail notification displays a notification identification (NID) associated with the particular caller number that generated the voicemail, and each voicemail displayed via the associated NID on the phone's display when the user selects the voicemail. Also, voicemail notification (icon or check mark) is added to the missed call log and displayed next to the missed call number that generated a voicemail. Additionally, granular user-directed access to voicemail is provided whereby the user of the phone device accesses the voicemail from the missed call (or received call) log and is able to listen to a specific voicemail left by a selected one of the listed missed calls/callee.

Abstract: A mobile communication device provides a user with the ability to set up one or more profiles on the device. Each profile is configured to segment the user's data and applications and selectively restrict access from an active profile to user data and applications associated with other profiles on the device. The mobile communication device stores profile configuration data including profile selection criteria used to automatically associate items of user data with profiles on the device. When an item of user data is received on the device, the device automatically identifies a profile to associate with the received item based on the profile selection criteria, and the received item is stored in the device so as to be associated with the identified profile. Exemplary profile selection criteria include criteria based on a current time or location, a currently active profile, a data type of the received item, and a source of the received item.

Abstract: Message notifications to an accessory from a mobile communication device are provided according to some embodiments of the invention. When a message such as a text message, email, and/or voicemail is received at a mobile communication device, the mobile communication device can notify an attached accessory that a message has been received. In response, the accessory can request the full message, media associated with the message, an attachment to the message, and/or an audio/video stream of the message for presentation to a user.

Abstract: A technique for managing simultaneous incoming and outgoing calls between the same far-end called terminal and far-end calling terminal and/or same user associated with a far-end called terminal and user associated with the far-end calling terminal includes an easy call abandon facility on a near-end terminal configured to compare information associated with an outgoing call to information associated with an incoming call. The easy call abandon facility is configured to initiate an audible or visible indicator when the terminal and/or user of the far-end called party is the same as that of the far-end calling party. In response to an easy call abandon indication received from a near-end terminal user, the easy call abandon facility disconnects the call from the near-end and connects the call received from the far-end terminal.

Abstract: A method includes receiving a notification that indicates that a call from a caller has been received at a remote network-based messaging system at a computer terminal. The computer terminal is connected to the remote network-based messaging system via a data connection. The method includes displaying a pop-up view at the computer terminal to notify a subscriber of the call. The pop-up view includes call screening options and an option to add information identifying the caller to an electronic address book that is not a call log. The method includes sending a request to intercept the call from the computer terminal to the remote network-based messaging system via the data connection and sending information that indicates a destination device from the computer terminal to the remote network based messaging system. The call is routed from the remote network-based messaging system to the destination device.

Abstract: A system for progressively synchronizing stored copies of indexed media transmitted between nodes on a network. The system includes a transmitter at the sending node configured to progressively transmit available indexed media to a receiving node with a packet size and packetization interval sufficient to enable the near real-time rendering of the indexed media, wherein the near real-time rendering of the indexed media provides a recipient with an experience of reviewing the transmitted media live. The system also includes a receiver at the receiving node that progressively receives the transmitted indexed media and continually notes any indexed media that is not already locally stored at the receiving node. The receiver also continually generates and transmits to the sending node requests as needed for the noted indexed media. In response, the transmitter at the sending node transmits the noted indexed media to the receiving node.

Abstract: A method for operating a directory assistance process adapted to provide a targeted message to incoming callers totally or substantially free of one or more 411-type directory assistance calling charges. The method includes receiving a phone call from an incoming caller and receiving a voice based request for information associated with directory assistance from the caller. The method also includes determining phone number information in response to the request through one or more first databases and identifying a phone number associated with the incoming caller using a caller identification process. The method further includes querying at least one database to ascertain a match between the phone number associated with the incoming caller and at least one of a plurality of identifiers in the at least one database, determining at least one message, transmitting the determined message to the incoming caller, and transmitting the phone number information to the incoming caller.

Abstract: Voice messaging services are used to provide messages for recipients associated with terminated network-based instant connect communication sessions. A first device engages in a communication session with a second device. The communication session between the two devices terminates and the first device records locally a voice message addressed to the second device. The message may be stored on the first device and transmitted to the second device after another communication session is established between the two devices. Alternately, the voice message may be transmitted to a message server and forwarded to the second device at a later time.

Abstract: An incoming call is communicated to a first endpoint and a second endpoint. A call redirection message comprising a redirection number is received from the first endpoint, and it is determined whether the first endpoint should be disconnected from the call according to the redirection number. The call is disconnected from the first endpoint if the redirection number indicates that the call should be disconnected.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for adapting a continuous presence videoconferencing layout according to interactions between conferees. Using regions of interest found in video images, the arrangement of images of conferees may be dynamically arranged as displayed by endpoints. Arrangements may be responsive to various metrics, including the position of conferees in a room and dominant conferees in the videoconference. Video images may be manipulated as part of the arrangement, including cropping and mirroring the video image. As interactions between conferees change, the layout may be automatically rearranged responsive to the changed interactions.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and computer program product for the proactive completion of input fields for automated voice enablement of a Web page. In an embodiment of the invention, a method for proactively completing empty input fields for voice enabling a Web page can be provided. The method can include receiving speech input for an input field in a Web page and inserting a textual equivalent to the speech input into the input field in a Web page. The method further can include locating an empty input field remaining in the Web page and generating a speech grammar for the input field based upon permitted terms in a core attribute of the empty input field and prompting for speech input for the input field. Finally, the method can include posting the received speech input and the grammar to an automatic speech recognition (ASR) engine and inserting a textual equivalent to the speech input provided by the ASR engine into the empty input field.

Abstract: A system and method for customizing communications for a communications device may include determining, at a network node, in response to determining that the communications device is in an off-hook state, that a user of the telephone has accepted to receive pre-dial content in substitution of standard pre-dial content. In response to determining that the user has accepted non-standard pre-dial content to be communicated in substitution of the standard pre-dial content, the non-standard pre-dial content may be communicated to the communications device in response to determining that the communications device is in an off-hook state. A signal from the communications device may be responded to before completion of the non-standard pre-dial content if the user pays a fee to enable interruption of the non-standard pre-dial content.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed which enable a user of a communications device to receive a notification of a priority and a context of a call before answering the call. A caller records a short phrase to be played on the callee's device either in place of ringing or following a predetermined amount of rings controlled by the callee's preferences. Among the callee's preferences is a selection of priority, such as among low, high, and critical. When callee's communications device is in any of these modes, every incoming call is intercepted giving the caller the opportunity to provide a short phrase for the context of the call and choose a priority level. This short phrase is played on the callee's communications device if the specified priority of the call matches or exceeds the current mode set on the callee's communications device, and the callee may answer.

Abstract: A method for answering a communication includes the steps of receiving an incoming communication sent by a sender and intended for a communication device of a recipient and answering the communication with an injected audio, video, text, and/or graphic message. The injected message indicates to the sender, in effect, that the recipient is presently unable to respond to the communication but is or will be made aware of the communication. The method further includes the step of providing a promise fulfillment feature that alerts the recipient to the communication and any promise to follow-up with the sender made in the injected message.

Abstract: A stream of voicemail audio data is received. A text-based representation of a portion of the stream of voicemail audio data is generated. One or more identification tags from the stream of voicemail audio data and/or the text-based representation of the portion of the stream of voicemail audio data are obtained from a first user. The text-based representation of the portion of the stream of voicemail audio data and the one or more identification tags are provided to a second user through a graphical user interface.

A message is displayed to a user. The monitoring module receives a call request from a calling party and generates a corresponding call alert message. The call alert module receives and processes the call alert message, and the keyboard receives different key inputs. The call alert module processes the call alert message to generate corresponding alert information to inform the called party to respond to the call request. The keyboard receives different key inputs to access and query corresponding operation instructions, and the called party replies and responds to the call request from the calling party according to the operation instructions.

Abstract: A method for signaling an Integrated Messaging System (IMS) on an Internet Protocol (IP) based network to deposit a message, including the steps of sending a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) SIP INVITE request to the IMS indicating a message deposit action; receiving a corresponding SIP message from the IMS agreeing to participate in the message deposit action; and sending an SIP acknowledge message to the IMS confirming receipt of the corresponding SIP message; and depositing the message in a destination mailbox. A method of signaling an IMS on an IP based network to retrieve a deposited message, the method including the steps of sending a SIP INVITE request to the IMS indicating a message retrieval action; receiving a corresponding SIP message from the IMS agreeing to participate in the message retrieval action; sending an SIP acknowledge message to the IMS confirming receipt of the corresponding SIP message; and retrieving the deposited message from a mailbox corresponding to known account information.

Abstract: Notification of missed voice calls directed to non-responsive called party devices in a communication network is provided. An incoming call directed to a called party device, when the called party device is in a non-responsive state, are received at a messaging platform. Call data associated with the call is stored at the messaging platform. The stored call data is utilized to generate a notification of the call. The notification of the call is sent from the messaging platform to the called party device or another device associated with the called party. The notification may include an identification of the calling party and a date and time when the call was made.

Abstract: A system allows an agent to manage an interaction between the agent and a contact using a computer system. The agent may use the computer system to selectively interleave pre-recorded script segments that are part of a planned informational dialog with pre-recorded script interjections such that the selective playing of scripts or script segments mimics conversion between actual persons.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for providing Programmable Caller ID Screening services. One method monitors a telephone call for a call screening request for commercial, residential, and other identifiers of incoming calls. An action is taken in response to the call screening request. The action could be playing an announcement, terminating the connection, forwarding to voice mail, storing the ICLID information in a database, adding the ICLID information to a Do Not Call list, updating a subscriber's profile with the ICLID information, and/or storing the ICLID information in a subscriber's blocked communications list. The call screening request may comprise a Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency, a softkey entry, and/or a data message. Subsequent incoming calls from the calling telephone number are characterized as undesirable and are screened from alerting or otherwise establishing a communications connection to the called telephone number.

Abstract: An apparatus (100, 200) and method are disclosed for managing voicemail messages. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a voicemail system (100) having a communications interface (110) and a controller (102) for managing operations of the communications interface. The controller is programmed to store (310) voicemail messages corresponding to a communication device (102), transmit (316) a log of the voicemail messages to the communication device, and receive (318) from the communication device a request to delete a voicemail message selectively chosen from a user interface corresponding to the voicemail log. The present disclosure further describes embodiments for the communication device.
