  • Patent number: 6676508
Abstract: A magnetically controlled flow system having a pivotable flap with a permanent magnet at distal ends. Two coils with magnetizable cores are mounted inside the duct and positioned so as to cooperate with the permanent magnet when the flap is in either a closed or an open position. By energizing the coils, the permanent magnet is attracted to the magnetizable cores in either one of the coils, thereby actuating the flap between the closed and open positions.

A cold-air bypass controlled by a cold-air flap is provided for lowering the temperature of the warm air flowing out of the warm air outlet to the air duct. In the cold-air bypass, which has a relatively small cross-section, a throttling element is coupled with the cold-air flap such that the cold-air flap partially, to a defined extent, covers the warm-air outlet in the open position of the cold-air flap, thus maximally opening up the cold-air bypass. In addition, in this arrangement the throttling element completely opens up the warm-air outlet in the closed position of the cold-air flap, thus completely blocking the cold-air bypass.

Abstract: An apparatus (10) includes a manually rotatable input member (15), an input gear (20), an output gear (40), a drive link (60), a first planar link (80), and a second planar link (90). The input gear (20) is operatively connected to the input member (15) to rotate with the input member (15). The input gear (20) includes a smooth portion (26, 28) and a toothed portion (22, 24). The output gear (40) has teeth (42, 43) which are operatively engageable with the toothed portion (22, 24) of the input gear (20) such that the toothed portion (22, 24) of the input gear (20) imparts rotation to the output gear (40). The smooth portion (22, 24) of the input gear (20) allows rotation of the input member (15) without imparting rotation to the output gear (40). The drive link (60) is connected to the output gear (40) such that rotation of the output gear (40) imparts rotation to the drive link (60). The drive link (60) has an engagement pin (62) which is rotatable with the drive link (60).

  • Patent number: 6193600
Abstract: An air passage switching system includes a case forming an air passage having an opening portion, and a butterfly door for opening and closing the opening. The door includes a door body portion made of a material having a high rigidity, and a seal member attached to the door body. The seal member is made of an elastic material, and is formed into a thin-plate shape to extend from an outer peripheral portion of the door body portion toward an outer side. The seal member of the door is press-fitted to a case seal surface around the opening portion along a seal line (D), so that the opening portion is closed. The door is set in such a manner that an inner peripheral curvature radius (RC2) of a corner portion of the case seal surface on the seal line is larger than an outer peripheral curvature radius (RD) of the seal member on the corner portion. Thus, the air passage switching system prevents air leak due to a deformation of the seal member while being produced in low cost.

  • Patent number: 6162119
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling the supply of intake air to a vehicle, incorporating a control unit which is arranged to indicate and initiate supply of intake air to at least three intake air regions in the vehicle which usually comprise a defroster region, a panel region and a floor region. The apparatus incorporates a control arrangement which is designed, depending on the setting of the control unit, to control dampers (15 A-C) which are situated in ducts which lead to the intake air regions. The control arrangement incorporates a cam arrangement designed to act upon an arm (14 A-C), arranged for each inlet air region, for variable setting of at least one of the dampers (15 A-C) between an open and a closed position.

Abstract: In constituting an air conditioner case by bonding a first case member having a cooling air intake chamber and a second case member that is not provided with a cooling air intake chamber, the cooling air intake chamber is formed in a direction that is perpendicular to an air intake port and a blower mounting hole, opening via an opening portion. A mounting plate provided with a regulator is mounted at the opening portion. Thus, since a partitioning wall and barrier walls defining the periphery of the cooling air intake chamber can be formed at the same time as the formation of the case main body of the first case member, it is not necessary to further divide the first case member.

A link member is connected to a first end of the rotation shaft, and the first end of the rotation shaft is rotatably held in a shaft receiving portion of the case through the link member. A first cylindrical portion is formed in the door body concentrically with the rotation shaft at an outer peripheral side of the first end, and a second cylindrical portion protruding to a side of the door body is formed in the case. The first cylindrical portion and the second cylindrical portion are engaged so that a small gap is formed between an outer peripheral surface of the second cylindrical portion, and an inner peripheral surface of the first cylindrical portion and an end of the seal member.

Abstract: An air handling system includes at least two doors to control the flow of air to achieve a selected mode. A first door travels through a first path, and a second door travels through a second path which intersects the first path. A first final position is determined for the first door and a second final position is determined for the second door to achieve the selected mode. It is determined whether the two doors will collide when traveling to the respective final door positions and it is determined whether both doors could be closed simultaneously while rotating to the final positions. A relief door is maintained at a partially open position.

A connecting rod is articulated pivotably on the closure flap and the actuating element to transmit tensile and compressive forces. The connecting rod is assigned to a position element, which is stationary with respect to the mounting of the closure flap, and is provided, at least in the region of the position element, with at least one spring element which acts transversely with respect to the longitudinal extent of said connecting rod. This spring element allows the connecting rod to be moved, by way of contact with the position element, into defined longitudinal positions with associated positions of the closure flap and actuating element. The connecting rod is preferably a spring wire incorporating a shaped spring element.

  • Patent number: 6015340
Abstract: The cylindrical end of the shaft of a rotating valve door in an automotive HVAC case is closely supported without either excessive clearance or binding, accommodating expected tolerance variations in the final, assembled location of the shaft end. The expected tolerance range is divided up into components along, and perpendicular to, the direction in which two housings of the case are assembled. One slot is cut into one housing along the direction of assembly, and another perpendicular thereto. When the housings are assembled, the two slots cross one another, capturing the shaft end closely on all four sides between the two pairs of slots. The closed ends of the slots have enough clearance from the nominal location of the shaft end to let the shaft end float to its final location without binding.

  • Patent number: 5957769
Abstract: A blower unit for an automobile air conditioner includes a centrifugal fan having a suction port for sucking outside air, and a motor for rotating the fan. The motor is disposed approximately horizontally to penetrate through the suction port of the fan. One end of the fan in an axial direction is connected to a rotation shaft of the motor by a connection member, and a water-prevention member is disposed on an outer peripheral surface of the motor at an inner peripheral side of the one end of the fan in the axial direction. The water-prevention member prevents water dropped onto the outer peripheral surface of the motor from moving to a side of the connection member. Further, the water-prevention member includes a groove portion for receiving water dropped from the one end of the fan along the connection member. Thus, in the blower unit, the water-prevention member prevents water from flowing into the motor.
