  • Patent number: 7383128
Abstract: Representations of data inversions are generated by alternate forms of maximum likelihood estimating and associated least-squares and regression analysis which are rendered in correspondence with either single component residual deviations or projections between data samples and inversion-conforming data sets. Deficiencies in representing likelihood as related to errors-in-variables data and heterogeneous precision are compensated by composite weighting of likelihood elements. Composite weight factors employ both normalization to establish non-skewed homogeneous likelihood elements and fundamental weighting to compensate for associated non-linearly and establish common units for combining orthogonal coordinate-oriented data-point projections. Respective weight factors are related to alternately considered fundamental variables.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates high-sensitivity detection of an anomaly in telemetry data from an electronic system using a telemetric impulsional response fingerprint of the telemetry data. During operation, the system applies a sudden impulse step change to one or more operational parameters of the electronic system during operation. Next, the system generates a three-dimensional (3D) telemetric impulsional response fingerprint (TIRF) surface from a dynamic response in the telemetry data to the sudden impulse step change. The system then determines from the 3D TIRF surface whether the telemetry data contains an anomaly.

Abstract: A power meter that uses a thermal mount whose response to changes in applied power is exponential, is equipped to digitally sample the conditions within the mount at a rate of many times per time thermal constant. Samples are monitored for an indication that a significant change in power level is occurring. When that condition is detected a forward extrapolation computational algorithm is performed upon several consecutive samples that may be taken over approximately the duration of one time constant. The extrapolation is a prediction the final value that would be obtained for the power sensor's indication of that same applied power after five time constants. The first of the several samples may occur immediately upon or shortly after the discovery that a significant change in power has occurred. An actual step in applied power need not last longer than the time during which the several samples for extrapolation are taken in order to be measured.

Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling processes related to the amount of fluid in a container subjected to externally-excited motions. Fluid level sensor measurements in processing tanks on-board boats are confused by ocean waves and swells. A hydrodynamic model of a fluid in a tank can be constructed using non-linear dynamic model algorithms with inputs such as multi-axis accelerations, fluid viscosity, and apparent level measurements. The model can be used to filter-out boat motion disturbances to obtain a corrected level of the fluid in the tank. The corrected fluid level signal can be further processed using a dynamic model of the tank and associated input and output flow rates in a closed loop observer. The methods and systems are especially advantageous for offshore equipment such as cementing and fracturing ships.

Abstract: Provided are systems, methods and techniques for, inter alia, processing an input signal. In one representative embodiment, samples of an input signal that represents a physical quantity are obtained and then transformed from an original domain into a plurality of coefficients in a transform domain, using an over-complete transform, such that the plurality of coefficients is sufficient to redundantly reconstruct the input signal samples. The coefficients are then modified independently of each other by applying a correction function, thereby obtaining a set of corrected coefficients, and the set of corrected coefficients is transformed back to the original domain. According to this embodiment, the correction function was determined by using a set of training pairs, each training pair including an uncorrected signal and a corrected signal, and by reducing a specified aggregate measure of error between the uncorrected signal and the corrected signal in the original domain across the training pairs.

In other aspects, the invention relates to methods for processing the acquired data to increase signal-to-noise ratio. In still other aspects, the invention relates to methods for imaging the data for visualization on a display.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method, electronic device, and computer readable medium for determining an end-of-life stage of the flash memory. The method comprises detecting at least one life cycle event associated with a flash memory residing on an electronic device A counter that is associated with the life cycle event is then incremented. Based on the counter, a total number of occurrences for the one life cycle event is determined. The total number of occurrences for the at least one given threshold are also determined. A current life cycle stage of the flash memory is identified based at least in part on the determining if the total number of occurrences exceeds at least one given threshold. The life cycle stage is associated with the at least one given threshold. A user is then notified of the life cycle state of the flash memory.

Abstract: A control system for a wind turbine comprises: a sensor arrangement for capturing measures related to the turbine operation and fatigue accumulation; an upper level controller, which, on the basis of a statistical treatment of said measures, calculates optimized control settings at discrete points of time; a measurement module which processes said measures into instantaneous values; and a lower level controller that receives said control settings and said instantaneous values and calculates instantaneous optimal commands to control turbine actuators. The lower level controller comprises a continuous-time damage model which calculates the rate at which damage is accumulated at any time, and an optimal controller which controls operational states of the turbine, either by directly giving feedback of the instantaneous values to the actuators, or by generating a turbine performance objective function which is continuously optimized by repeatedly solving a receding horizon optimization problem.

Abstract: A system and method to fully characterize the thermal behavior of complex 3D submicron electronic devices. The system replaces and/or supplements laser-based surface temperature scanning with a CCD camera-based approach. A CCD camera records multiple points of light energy reflected from an integrated circuit to obtain a static temperature measurement. The system is used to non-invasively measure with submicron resolution the 2D surface temperature field of an activated device. A CW laser illuminates a single point on the surface of an active device and a photodetector records the reflected light energy to obtain a transient temperature measurement. The measured 2D temperature field is used as input for an ultra-fast inverse computational solution to fully characterize the thermal behavior of the complex 3D device. The system extracts geometric features of a known device, assessing the system's ability to combine measured results and computations to fully characterize complex 3D electronic devices.
