Abstract: A first rigid body has a horizontal surface on which a composite is to be placed and a non-horizontal surface on which the composite is not to be placed, with the horizontal surface and the non-horizontal surface forming a continuous horizontal linear edge. The continuous horizontal linear edge has a first portion, which is an edge of the non-horizontal surface, and a second portion, which is an edge of the horizontal surface, and the composite has a first region provided with a first member and a second region provided without the first member. While the composite is placed so that the first portion corresponds to the first region or the first region and a part of the second region and that the second portion corresponds to the remaining second region, the composite is separated by moving down a second rigid body from above the substrate.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for reducing or eliminating sliver formation during aluminum sheet trimming operations. By controlling parameters such as trimming angle and cutting blade clearance, aluminum sheet can be trimmed while substantially eliminating the formation of slivers which damage the surface finish of the part. Cutting angle and clearance are preferably selected such that a wide range of cutting blade sharpnesses produce satisfactory cuts. The method and apparatus are particularly useful for trimming aluminum autobody sheet.

Abstract: Apparatus and processes for producing paper roll products with spaced core sections. A core substrate is arranged on a mandrel, and then divided into a plurality of core sections. The core sections are then separated from each other on the mandrel to form gaps between the core sections. Paper web material can then be wound onto the separated core sections to form a log of rolls. The log is then cut into final paper roll products.

Abstract: A cutting machine for napped cloth prevents fray and dropout of fabric during cutting, and inhibits shortening of the life of a cutter. An interconnected body formed by a plurality of metallic body plates interconnected by a long light shielding ribbon with adhesive, formed by applying a sealing agent and an adhesive on a surface opposite a napped surface of a napped cloth having a single napped surface, is conveyed by a conveying means. The interconnected body is conveyed so that a void area between adjacent metallic body plates is positioned at a predetermined cutting position between lower and upper receiving surfaces. The light shielding ribbon with adhesive is sandwiched and fastened from both sides by a fastener part, and then this light shielding ribbon with adhesive is cut by advancing a cutter through a cutting part from the napped surface side.

Abstract: A punching device for punching a hole in a sheet of material, comprising a metal body having an upper part and a lower part each having a front end and a rear end and an aperture between the two ends. The apertures have substantially identical shape and size and being horizontally aligned with each other. The upper and lower body parts are interconnected at their rear ends and vertically spaced apart to form a horizontal planar gap therebetween into which a said sheet may be inserted for punching. The punching device includes a punching die having a cross-section of a substantially identical shape and size as the apertures and supported within the upper aperture for downward movement across the gap into the lower aperture thereby punching a hole in a said sheet. A spacer is located in the gap for limiting undesirable downward movement of the upper body part relative to the lower body part during a punching action.

The cutting apparatus includes a die having a substantially planar first surface and a substantially planar second surface. A cutting surface and at least one bearer surface respectively protrude from the first surface of the die. A height of the bearer surface is substantially equal to a height of the cutting surface, such that the bearer surface prevents damage to the cutting surface when the cutting surface and bearer surface are moved to contact an anvil surface of the platen die station. One or more layers of a compliant material, such as polyethylene or polypropylene, may be situated in contact with the second surface of the die to add compliance to the cutting apparatus.
