The punch and die assemblies are aligned to a common center and are structured to slidably engage one another for positive guidance of the punch and die tools without the need for other guidance by shafts, bars or the like. One of the punch assembly and die assembly can be non-fixedly carried by the drive mechanism, allowing the guidance of the engaged punch and die assemblies to define the relative positions of the tools. The device comprises a c-shaped plate with blade retaining grooves having a plurality of threaded bores sized to match common commercially available fastener diameters, and a blade having a striking end and a cutting edge with an angle of preferably less than 30°. Fasteners to be cut are rotatably threaded in a clockwise direction through the threaded bores so that the portion to be cut extends through the plate. The blade is then inserted into the blade retaining grooves with the cutting edge resting on top of the uppermost fastener to be shortened. Pressure is applied to the striking end with a striking tool such as but not limited to a hammer, which causes the blade to move downward while severing the extended portion of the fasteners to be cut.

Abstract: A pipe punch apparatus which generally comprises a punch housing, a punch means situated within the punch housing, and a collar. The punch housing is connected to a bi-directional hydraulic fluid pump means. Depending on which direction the pump is set, the pump releases fluid into the punch housing which causes the punch means to either extend from the punch housing or retract into the punch housing. The collar is connected to the punch housing by a connecting means so that a notch within the collar receives the punch means when the punch means is in the extended position. The parts are also relatively situated so that positioning the punch housing within a pipe will cause the collar to be located exterior to the pipe. Thus, as the punch means moves from its initial retracted position to its extended position, it will also punch a hole through the pipe.

The apparatus is characterized by two cutter plates (1, 2) of equal size which are each formed with two cutting edges (1.1, 1.2; 2.1, 2.2) and which are disposed on a support (3) so as to be pressable against each other and at the same time linearly slidable in opposite directions with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 4848425
Abstract: A tree felling head has a frame with two laterally spaced-apart support means at the bottom of the frame. A cutting unit is pivotally mounted at one end on one of the support means while the other end of the cutting unit is supported on the other support means. The cutting unit carries a rotatable cutting bar. Means pivot the cutting unit, while its other end is guided on the other support means, and while its cutting bar is rotated, to move the cutting bar against a tree and to cut through it.The cutting unit also has an accumulating plate located immediately behind the cutting bar for accumulating cut trees thereon.

  • Patent number: 4833953
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically providing notching indicia on the edge of a garment subassembly to provide a dimensional reference to be utilized in subsequent fabrication of the goods. A conveyor transports the garment subassembly to a notching station at which the pre-assembled parts are secured in accurate registration to the path of a notching device that is movable on a carriage toward and away from the notching station. The notching device includes a vertically extending notching blade having a recessed cutting edge which, when positioned at the notching station, overlies an edge of the garment part subassembly. On displacing the blade downward, the notch indicia is cut into the garment piece after which the notching unit is withdrawn to a home position while the notched part is transported by the conveyor to a subsequent fabrication step. In a preferred embodiment two notching devices supported in a common path on opposite sides of the notching station are utilized.

  • Patent number: 4799826
Abstract: A submerged object, such as a barge, is cut into pieces by a cutting apparatus suspended from a floating vessel. The apparatus comprises a blade carrier which forms channels in which a cutting blade is mounted for vertical movement. In practice, the blade carrier includes a pair of pointed anchor studs at the lower end thereof. The blade carrier is suspended above the submerged barge and is dropped thereon so that the anchor studs are impaled in the barge to hold the carrier in positionally constrained relationship therewith. Thereafter, the cutting blade is dropped onto the barge while the carrier is positionally constrained relative to the barge by the anchor studs. By repeated performance of those steps, a series of aligned cuts can be made through the object in order to divide the object into separately raisable pieces.

  • Patent number: 4597179
Abstract: There is provided a device which is principally used for trimming to a predetermined length the leads on electronics components prior to their insertion and connection to a printed circuit board. The device comprises a housing, in which is disposed positioning means and a movable plunger to which is attached a cutter blade. Also in contact therewith are resilient urging means to maintain close contact for effective shear cutting between the cutter blade and a die removably, but in fixed position, attached to the housing. The die incorporates holes or perforations into which the component leads are inserted for trimming, a plurality of holes normally being utilized in positions that correspond to the position of such leads on said component. The die is also a predetermined thickness, which thickness establishes the lengths to which the leads are trimmed in accordance with the specifications and thickness of the PC board to which the component will subsequently be soldered.
