  • Patent number: 7720094
Abstract: Wireless network demands continually increase as wireless service providers pursue additional service capabilities. In a cellular communication system, leased lines between remote cell sites and the corresponding Mobile Switching Offices (MSOs) remain a major operating cost. Bandwidth reduction by identification and elimination of payload data and control information which need not be fully replicated because it can be deduced from information accessible or previously transmitted allows fewer lines to support the same bandwidth. A wireless access gateway is operable to aggregate such redundant and regenerable data on a backhaul link between a wireless cell site and the corresponding mobile switching office (MSO) to provide low-latency, type specific lossless bandwidth reduction. The wireless access gateway identifies regenerable information and eliminates portions of the data which the device need not transmit because the data is redundant, or accessible or recreatable, at the receiving side.

Abstract: An arrangement and method for channel mapping in a UTRA TDD HSDPA wireless communication system by applying interleaving functions in first (530) and second (540) interleaving means to a bit sequence to produce symbols for mapping to physical channels, the first and second interleaving means being arranged to map symbols from respectively systematic and parity bits in a predetermined scheme, e.g., mapping symbols in a forward direction when a channel has an even index number, and in a reverse direction when a channel has an odd index number. The symbols may comprise bit-pairs, each of a systematic bit and parity bit. Systematic bits are preferably mapped to high reliability bit positions in TDD HSDPA, achieving a performance gain of between 0.2 dB and 0.5 dB. The forwards/reverse mapping allows a degree of interleaving that improves system performance in fading channels or channels disturbed by short time period noise or interference.

  • Patent number: 7647389
Abstract: In the method for configuration negotiation in a data communication system, an access network receives an access request and a token from an access terminal. The token includes at least one bit associated with a parameter group type, and the bit indicates whether the access terminal is operating according to a default parameter group for the associated parameter group type. The access network sends information to and receives information from the access terminal according to the default parameter group without negotiating a parameter group of the associated parameter group type when a portion of the access network communicating with the access terminal operates according to the default parameter group for the associated parameter group type and the bit indicates the access terminal operates according to the default parameter group for the associated parameter group type.

Abstract: Disclosed are, inter alia, methods, apparatus, computer-storage media, mechanisms, and means associated with Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) on multilink bundled interfaces. A packet switching device communicates with another packet switching device through a multilink bundled interface configured for communicating over a plurality of bundled communication links. A separate BFD session is conducted over each link of the multiple bundled communication links, and in response to a BFD-detected failure condition, the use of the one or more links or the entire bundled interface is removed from service.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a physical layer controller (PHY) and a media access control coprocessor (MPC). The PHY includes a plurality of physical-layer queues, wherein each of the plurality of physical-layer queues is associated with one of a plurality of bursts, wherein each of the plurality of bursts includes one or more protocol data units (PDUs). The MPC is configured to receive a first PDU associated with a first burst of the plurality of bursts and write the first PDU of the first burst to a first physical-layer queue of the plurality of physical-layer queues. The MPC is further configured to receive a second PDU and determine that the second PDU is associated with a second burst of the plurality of bursts. The MPC also being configured to write the second PDU to a second physical-layer queue, wherein the second physical-layer queue is associated with the second burst.

  • Patent number: 7630314
Abstract: Proper allocation of network bandwidth is a crucial issue in rendering certain performance guarantees to meet the growing customer demands. Hence, allocation methodologies must explicitly be carried out for these guarantees to be given as efficiently as possible since the shared resources are limited. This invention presents methods and systems for Dynamic Bandwidth Management (DBM) and Quality of Service (QoS) in packet-based networks. DBM is an algorithm that dynamically adjusts the resource allocation in the IP Access Networks based upon measured QoS at the IP Core Network through an implementation of a Feedback Control Mechanism to manage available core transport bandwidth. Such a Feedback Control Mechanism is capable of maintaining a condition of non-congestion, a sufficient and necessary condition to meet end-to-end QoS requirements in a Next Generation Network (NGN).

  • Publication number: 20090296736
Abstract: A method of transferring data in an automation system having a plurality of communicatively connected communication stations is provided. The communicative connection of the communication stations follows a predefined hierarchy, in which a plurality of communication stations are grouped together in a line and an alias matched to the hierarchy is assigned to each communication station. Telegrams sent in the automation system designate a destination communication station also by its alias, whereby each line is closed to form a ring by way of its transition, designated as entry point, from the next higher line by way of the entry point, and telegrams in the ring thus resulting with the line are forwarded both in the direction of the hierarchy of the allocated alias designations and also in the opposite direction.
