  • Patent number: 8377498
Abstract: Disclosed is a production method for medical devices with a hydrophilic coating, which ensures adequate adhesion to the substrate, as well as good water retention and low friction properties. Specifically, the method comprises providing a coating solution comprising a hydrophilic polymer to a surface of a substrate to form a non-cross-linked hydrophilic coating; and irradiating the coated substrate, thereby cross-linking the hydrophilic coating and simultaneously sterilizing the medical device. Hereby, a non-cross linked hydrophilic coating is first obtained which is not fit for use as a catheter coating. However, after the step of irradiating the coated substrate, the hydrophilic coating becomes cross-linked, and fit for use e.g. on a urinary catheter. Further, since one and the same irradiation step is used to effect both cross-linking and sterilization, the production can be made more efficient, using fewer production steps and with a shortened production time.

Abstract: Copoly(imide oxetane) materials are disclosed that can exhibit a low surface energy while possessing the mechanical, thermal, chemical and optical properties associated with polyimides. The copoly(imide oxetane)s are prepared using a minor amount of fluorinated oxetane-derived oligomer with sufficient fluorine-containing segments of the copoly(imide oxetane)s that migrate to the exterior surface of the polymeric material to yield low surface energies. Thus the coatings and articles of manufacture made with the copoly(imide oxetane)s of this invention are characterized as having an anisotropic fluorine composition. The low surface energies can be achieved with very low content of fluorinated oxetane-derived oligomer. The copolymers of this invention can enhance the viability of polyimides for many applications and may be acceptable where homopolyimide materials have been unacceptable.

In the sound absorbing material 10 as vehicle exterior equipment, powdery resin is applied to the surface 20a of the non-woven cloth 20. The powdery resin and the non-woven fabric 20 are heated, compressed and cooled to form a resin layer 30. The resin layer 30 is porous due to particle residue parts 30b where parts of the powdery resin remain in particulate form. The non-woven fabric 20 of the sound absorbing material 10 as vehicle exterior equipment can be constituted from two types of non-woven fabrics 22, 24 superimposed together.

Abstract: A method for modifying the surface of a substrate includes the following steps: (1) a step for forming a polysilazane coating by applying a polysilazane onto the surface of a substrate; (2) a step for applying an organic compound of which main backbone comprises an organic group represented by the following formula [1]: —[(R)mO]n— (wherein R represents an alkylene group, and m and n respectively represent a positive number of not less than 1) onto the surface of the polysilazane coating; and (3) a step for heating the substrate having undergone the steps (1) and (2), thereby converting the polysilazane to silica and bonding the organic compound to the silica of the silica layer.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a method for manufacturing a product shell. A diaphanous mold with a recess and a coating layer located inside the recess are provided. A substrate is disposed inside the recess. The coating layer is located between the recess and the substrate. The coating layer is cured to combine with the substrate by a curing device through the diaphanous mold. The substrate is then removed from the diaphanous mold to form the product shell.

Abstract: In a method for processing a nanotube, a vapor is condensed to a solid condensate layer on a surface of the nanotube and then at least one selected region of the condensate layer is locally removed by directing a beam of energy at the selected region. The nanotube can be processed with at least a portion of the solid condensate layer maintained on the nanotube surface and thereafter the solid condensate layer removed. Nanotube processing can include, e.g., depositing a material layer on an exposed nanotube surface region where the condensate layer was removed. After forming a solid condensate layer, an electron beam can be directed at a selected region along a nanotube length corresponding to a location for cutting the nanotube, to locally remove the condensate layer at the region, and an ion beam can be directed at the selected region to cut the nanotube at the selected region.

Abstract: A substrate transfer system to reduce total processing time by transferring a substrate at a first delivery stage to a process block where processing can be carried out earliest. The substrate processing apparatus includes a first transfer device delivering a wafer with respect to a substrate carrier, and a second transfer device delivering a wafer between a plurality of process blocks and the first transfer device via a first delivery stage, to transfer the wafer with respect to the process blocks. The process block where there is no wafer or where processing of the last wafer within the relevant process block will be completed earliest is determined based on processing information of the wafers from the process blocks, and the wafer of the first delivery stage is transferred by the second transfer device to the relevant process block. This ensures smooth transfer of the wafer to the process block.

Abstract: This invention relates to the printing of a substrate having a pre-printed “print pattern” with a “design layer” of ink where there is differential adhesion within and without the print pattern. The print pattern is receptive to an ink, and the design layer ink forms a durable image material with good bond to the print pattern, but the ink does not form a durable image material on the portions of the substrate outside the print pattern. The design layer ink is a UV-curable ink, and the print pattern may have a higher surface energy than the portions of the substrate outside the print pattern.
