  • Patent number: 6709318
Abstract: A grinding wheel and a method for grinding bar blade for the production of spiral gear teeth are described. For economical grinding of such bar blades the grinding wheel has a conical grinding surface (Pp) widening from a small diameter (d1) to a large diameter (d2), a cylindrical grinding surface (Ps) adjoining the conical grinding surface (Pp), and a toroidal grinding surface (G) adjoining the cylindrical grinding surface (Ps). The grinding wheel embodied in this manner enables profile grinding (rough grinding) and subsequent generating grinding (finish grinding) of the surfaces of the bar blade without the necessity of remounting the blade. For practical purposes the grinding wheel rotates about a stationary axis (S), and the bar blade to be ground is guided along the grinding wheel at appropriately set angles.

Abstract: The relationship between polishing conditions constituting elements and the worked shape (amount of polishing) obtained by means of these polishing conditions is input beforehand into polishing condition determining means along with the type of the object of polishing, and polishing conditions (invariable polishing conditions) that are used in common for the polishing of this object of polishing. The polishing condition determining means determine the polishing conditions on the basis of these conditions. Specifically, the above-mentioned polishing conditions constituting elements are given in a time series, or combinations of the above-mentioned polishing conditions constituting elements are converted into variations in the swinging velocity of the polishing body, and the swinging velocity corresponding to the swinging position is determined.

Abstract: Improved accuracy of grinding glass pieces for use in stained glass art and the like. The mask is then cut to the traced pattern and is adhered to a piece of untrimmed glass of area greater than that of the mask, using water resistant adhesive. The outline of the pattern is rendered opaque, for example by an ink marker. Thus prepared, the untrimmed glass is abraded on a powered abrading machine having a flat, horizontal work table, a rotatable abrading element disposed to engage a workpiece supported on the work table, and lamps operating at low voltage arranged to back light the workpiece from therebelow. The untrimmed workpiece exhibits a brightly illuminated zone extending outside the opaque zone of the mask, thus emphasizing glass to be eroded. Abstract: A circular or non-circular workpiece is ground in a plurality of grinding steps, including a final finish grinding step. A grinding wheel is caused to effect profile generation movement in synchronism with rotation of the workpiece and in accordance with profile data derived from the target shape of the workpiece. In each grinding step, the grinding wheel is advanced in such a manner that the grinding wheel causes cut-in movement within a predetermined cut-in angle defined on the workpiece. After completion of the final finish grinding step, the grinding wheel is retracted over a predetermined back-off angle defined on the workpiece. The retraction is effected in accordance with composite data obtained through combining the profile data and back-off data. • Patent number: 6306018
Abstract: The time to grind a workpiece can be reduced by selecting a grinding wheel whose width is not substantially greater than wheel strength considerations require, and which may therefore be less than the axial length fo the region to be ground providing a work rest or work steady to increase the workpiece stiffness if required, and performing a succession of plunge grinding steps so as to grind the whole of the said axial region. Typically the grinding wheel is an electroplated CBN wheel, and the width of the grinding wheel selected is the narrowest permissible given the desired feed rate and motive power available.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the finishing treatment of shaft workpieces, in particular crankshafts and camshafts. The device comprises a carrier, at least one jaw for exerting contact pressure on the workpiece, and a linear guide for guiding the jaw. The linear guide is supported by a transverse guide to form a cross guiding system which follows the rotational motion of the workpiece by revolving around its axis of rotation. The transverse guide contains a main carriage guided on the carrier. The main carriage is radially aligned with respect to the axis of rotation of the workpiece. The main carriage has a fork-shaped head facing towards the side of the workpiece. A guide rail for the linear guide is chucked between the between the legs of the fork-like head.

  • Patent number: 6254458
Abstract: A process for post processing a part that has a Nitinol coating applied by plasma spraying or PVD coating gives the Nitinol desirable properties of toughness and malleability. It also produces a layer of surface material that is extremely hard, chemically non-reactive, electrically and thermally insulating. The process includes selecting a part that has a surface coating of Nitinol applied by plasma spraying or PVD coating and polishing the surface coating to give it a smooth and shiny surface. The polished surface is then cleaned to remove all polishing residue. The surface of the Nitinol coating is heated a temperature in a range of about 400° C. to 900° C.; and is rapidly cooled by forced air flow over the surface coating or by low temperature air or liquid immersion. Thereafter, the outer surfaces of the layer of surface material may be repolished and reheated as before to enhance the layer of thermally produced surface material.

The shaped section of the plunger tool exhibits an extreme narrowing, at the deepest point of which there may be at least one annular groove. Unlike prior art transitions, the transition from the large diameter to the reservoir section is not steep and straight but takes the form of an S-shaped curve. An exact contour of the annular grooves on the surface of the plunger tool is essential for their production and can be done only by the use of a precision diamond abrasive point.
