  • Publication number: 20120060866
Abstract: The present disclosure describes various embodiments of devices and systems for monitoring the clean/dirty status of dishes inside a dishwashing machine. In one embodiment, for example, a dishwasher status indicator can include one or more vessels for holding water to visibly indicate that a dishwashing cycle is complete. In another embodiment, the indicator can include an attachment feature or portion, such as a hook attached to the vessel. The hook can be configured to removably attach the indicator to a dishwasher frame or rack. A user can quickly determine the clean/dirty status of dishes in the dishwasher by observing whether the vessel is holding water.

Abstract: The invention relates to a bed bug detection device (10) comprising a refuge (16) which elicits a taxis response from bed bugs and a non-trapping indicator surface (18), on which the bed bugs may leave indicators of their presence, such as faecal matter or cast skins. The refuge is positioned in close proximity to said non-trapping indicator surface such that the bed bugs can leave an indicator of their presence as they travel across the indicator surface on their way to or from the refuge. Preferably the non-trapping indicator surface takes the form of a skirt which surrounds a refuge made of corrugated paper. The invention also provides a passive method of detecting the presence of bed bugs without their capture by detecting the presence of indicators rather than the bed bugs per se.

  • Patent number: 8094031
Abstract: An air freshening device is provided for detecting water leaks and protecting surfaces from water damage due to leaks. The device includes: a tray, configured for being placed upon a surface located under a water pipe; a removable and replaceable liner placed upon the tray, the liner comprising a material configured for releasing an air freshening substance into air, and for increasing the release rate of the substance upon contact with water. The increase of the release rate of the substance leads to an intensifying of the scent of the substance in air, and indicates the presence of a leak from the water pipe. The tray prevents water leaking from the water pipe from touching the surface.

Abstract: The lamellar or strip-shaped floor marking, in particular for means of transportation, in particular airplanes, having a photoluminescent layer on which covering elements which appear dark in comparison with the luminous layer and which serve as a directional indication are arranged in such a way that acute-angled markings pointing in a direction are formed. The covering elements extend over the entire width of the floor marking and taper on both sides at one of their ends so that a recess bounded by an acute-angled isosceles triangle is formed there. The covering elements are substantially adjacent to one another, at least in groups, in such a way that the distance between them is smaller than approximately three times their longitudinal extent.

Abstract: A shape memory material activated device of the present invention uses a shape memory material activator to create a path through a shell wall of the device. The path through the shell wall may release a substance contained in the shell or allow a substance to enter the shell. The path may be created by fracturing, puncturing, exploding, imploding, peeling, tearing, stretching, separating, debonding, abrading or otherwise opening the shell and, may be permanent or reversible. The substance may be released in one location while the device is stationary or along a path while it is traveling, self-powered by the shape memory material activator. • Patent number: 7603961
Abstract: A lighted orientation device according to the present invention includes an outer housing having a construction that is resilient, generally spherical, and defines an interior space for holding fluid. A directional indicator such as a float is positioned within the outer housing and rises to a top surface of the fluid for indicating an upward direction. The float is also constructed of a resilient material and includes first and second chemicals separated by a breakable membrane. The two chemicals react when combined to produce light, whereby a user may view the float and ascertain which direction is “up”. The lighted orientation device may be coupled to a digging tool according to an alternative embodiment such that a user may begin digging out of an avalanche as soon as their orientation is determined.

  • Patent number: 7553450
Abstract: An irreversible humidity exposure dose indicator device, including a housing sealed at a first end thereof and adapted at a second end thereof to admit ambient gas ingress into an interior volume containing chromogenic material. The chromogenic material in contact with water irreversibly absorbs such water to produce a change whose extent is correlative of cumulative exposure of the device to humidity. The device may be configured as an indicator card including an intermediate permeable membrane coated on a first side thereof with a layer of a deliquescent solid and being in contact on a second side thereof with a layer containing a reactive indicator, with a water-permeable layer adjacent to the layer containing the deliquescent coating, enclosed within a water-impermeable transparent enclosure.

The novel means comprises a temperature-conductive, rust-resistant metallic plate for condensing and collecting water from a humid basement atmosphere when the temperature of the plate is lower than the dewpoint of the humid atmosphere. The metallic plate has a thickness of at lest about 0.2 inch and has a flat bottom surface for temperature conductive contact with a flat concrete basement floor. The plate also has an upper surface having with a centralized recessed area for the accumulation of water condensed from the humid atmosphere in the basement when the temperature of the metallic plate, as conducted from the basement floor, is lower than the dewpoint of the humid atmosphere surrounding the metallic plate.
