Processes And Products Patents (Class 162/100)
  • Patent number: 8958898
Abstract: The invention embodies methods and apparatuses to monitor and control the characteristics of a creping process. The method involves measuring optical properties of various points along a creped paper sheet and converting those measurements into characteristic defining data. The invention allows for determining the magnitude and distribution of crepe structures and their frequency and distribution. This allows for the generation of information that is accurate and is much more reliable than the coarse guessing that is currently used in the industry. Feeding this information to papermaking process equipment can result in increases in both quality and efficiency in papermaking.

  • Publication number: 20140000825
Abstract: A method for alteration of the morphology of cellulose fibers, particularly softwood fibers, by (a) subjecting the fibers to a metal ion-activated peroxide treatment carried out at a pH of between about 1 and about 9, preferably between 3 and 7, and (b) subjecting the treated fibers to a refining treatment thereby converts SW fibers to HW-like fibers in many respects. The metal ion-activated peroxide treatment has been noted to act on pulp cellulose and hemi-cellulose, causing oxidation and oxidative degradation of cellulose fibers. The chemical treatment of the pulp, taken alone, is not sufficient to attain the desired modification of the morphology of the fibers, however, subsequent refining or like mechanical treatment of the chemically-treated fibers to achieve a given degree of refinement of the fibers requires dramatically less refining energy to achieve a desired end point of refinement and to impart other desirable properties to the pulp.

In another embodiment, the methods include using a transgenic plant to produce a pulp.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for the preparation of a modified lignocellulosic material by treating the lignocellulosic material in a first activator zone having an atmosphere of one or more acid anhydrides in vapour form in a gas at a gauge pressure of 0-50 kPag and a temperature of 100-160° C., and then treating the lignocellulosic material in a second reactor zone having an atmosphere of a gas at a gauge pressure of 0-50 kPag and a temperature of 120-190° C., thereafter stripping the lignocellulosic material with steam or water in a stripper zone, and optionally further processing. The process is more efficient as compared with the prior art processes by providing a better access of the acid anhydrides to the sites of the reactive lignocellulosic hydroxyl groups (—OH), which are located on the internal surfaces of pores and capillary channels in the lignocellulose. Furthermore, the apparatus is relatively simple.

Abstract: A pretreatment apparatus for removing pith from cornstalks and separating husks therefrom includes a casing that receives cornstalks in a free-fall manner through an upper side thereof and allows the corn stalks to be discharged through a lower side thereof, and a rotor inserted into the casing and rotating inside the casing to hit cornstalk chips. The rotor includes a shaft inserted into the casing to be rotated by external force, a cover member holding the shaft so as to allow rotation of the shaft therein and connected to the entirety or part of an open upper side of the casing, and a hitting unit formed on a circumference of the shaft and hitting the corn stalks input into the casing.

Abstract: The invention provides a PCB protective cover, an LCD device, and a method for manufacturing a PCB protective cover. The PCB protecting cover is made of an antistatic paper material. The invention provides a novel paper PCB protecting cover. The PCB protecting cover has the advantages of good mechanical strength, simple processing, and low cost, and has antistatic ability because of being added with an antistatic material, thereby greatly reducing the cost of the PCB protecting cover when satisfying the function requirement of the PCB protecting cover, and improving the overall competitiveness of the LCD device.

Abstract: A modified kraft pulp fiber with unique properties is provided. The modified fiber can be a modified bleached kraft fiber that is almost indistinguishable from its conventional counterpart, except that it has a low degree of polymerization (DP). Methods for making the modified fiber and products made from it are also provided. The method can be a one step acidic, iron catalyzed peroxide treatment process that can be incorporated into a single stage of a multi-stage bleaching process. The products can be chemical cellulose feedstocks, microcrystalline cellulose feedstocks, fluff pulps and products made from them.
