  • Patent number: 8654784
Abstract: A network stack sends very large packets with large segment offload (LSO) by performing multi-pass LSO. A first-stage LSO filter is inserted between the network stack and the physical NIC. The first-stage filter splits very large LSO packets into LSO packets that are small enough for the NIC. The NIC then performs a second pass of LSO by splitting these sub-packets into standard MTU-sized networking packets for transmission on the network.

Abstract: It is desired to suitably carry out transmission processing and reception processing carried out when transmitting a multicarrier signal where specific subcarriers are omitted. Therefore, the present invention carries out transmission avoidance processing operable when transmitting a multicarrier signal to replace signals corresponding to subcarriers, in a plurality of subcarriers, at frequency positions where transmission is avoided with a null signal. Subsequently, an inverse Fourier transform is carried out on the output of the transmission avoidance processing, the transmission power of the multicarrier signal that has been transformed is amplified in accordance with the number of subcarriers replaced with the null signal and the multicarrier signal is transmitted.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate improved modulation and coding techniques for a multiple-in multiple-out (MIMO) communication system. As described herein, data to be transmitted over a set of physical layers (e.g., corresponding to antennas, beams, etc.) can be processed such that encoding is performed on a per-codeword basis and modulation is performed on a per-layer basis, thereby mitigating performance degradation experienced by traditional systems due to layer imbalance. As further described herein, per-codeword code rate parameters and per-layer modulation parameters can be signaled to a device in various manners, such as through modulation and coding scheme (MCS) signaling, explicit code rate and/or modulation scheme signaling, relative code rate and/or modulation scheme signaling, or the like.

  • Patent number: 8644403
Abstract: An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbol for transmission from a non-reference transceiver to a user equipment (UE) in a mobile communication system is generated by ascertaining a general timing for transmission of OFDM symbols, in which the general timing is associated with a reference transceiver. A UE timing relative to the general timing is ascertained. An initial resource element (RE) value is adjusted by a pre-compensating amount to obtain a pre-compensated RE value, in which the pre-compensating amount is based on the UE timing relative to the general timing. The pre-compensated resource element value is supplied as one of a plurality of values to be transmitted. An IFFT is performed on the plurality of values to be transmitted to obtain pre-compensated initial signal information. A cyclic prefix is appended to the pre-compensated initial signal information to form an OFDM symbol for transmission from the non-reference transceiver to the UE.

  • Patent number: 8630363
Abstract: The system (900), transmitter (700), receiver (800.a 800.b), and method of the present invention provide a technique to code data bits into symbols using TCM, MLCM or BIMLCM before the symbols are placed in an SCBT block. Generally, TCM, MLCM, and BIMLCM do not have good performance over the frequency selective channels. However, since the frequency domain equalization of SCBT will flatten the channel, the use of TCM, MLCM and BIMLCM can provide significant gain. Furthermore, since some of the bits are left uncoded, the speed requirements on the encoder and decoder can be relaxed. This feature is especially important for the very high data rate systems.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for signal acquisition in an OFDM receiver relies on a preamble training sequence to synchronize the receiver in time (e.g. determining the start of a frame) and in frequency (carrier frequency offset compensation). The preamble training sequence has a periodic structure and the method and apparatus perform a cross-correlation technique using a matched filter to achieve time synchronization and/or frequency synchronization and/or channel estimation, the latter being especially useful in multi-antenna receivers for diversity combining purposes. Many advantages derive from performing at least two and preferably all three operations jointly, in terms of latency, hardware complexity, and length of training sequence required to achieve satisfactory convergence on all counts. The periodicity of the training sequence is exploited to reduce considerably the main filter complexity and optionally dynamically adjust carrier offset compensation throughout the filtering process.

Abstract: Methods and systems for determining and optimizing a throughput of a short range wireless network are provided. The method mainly includes acquiring respective time parameters in a contention access period based on information transmission characteristics of the short range wireless network; and computing and optimizing the throughput of the short range wireless network based on the respective time parameters. These time parameters are determined based on a non-persistent Carrier Sense Multiple Access CSMA mechanism. Therefore, the present invention employs a non-persistent CSMA mechanism to analyze the CAP of a short range wireless network and thus simplifies complexity in determining the network throughput and the analysis process of network optimization. As such, accurate throughput parameters of the standard network of the short range wireless network may be obtained, the network performance may be optimized and the performance of the short range wireless network is improved.

Abstract: Systems and methods for terminating telephony communications to a mobile telephony device that is roaming outside of its native service area make use of a forwarding termination service. The forwarding termination service causes the native mobile telephony service provider that provides service to the mobile telephony device to forward incoming telephony communications directed the native telephone number of the mobile telephony device to a forwarding access number. The forwarding termination service receives telephony communications directed to the forwarding access number, and then terminates the telephony communication to the mobile telephony device via any one of multiple different methods. The mobile telephony service provider can be instructed to implement and cancel call forwarding instructions by dialing a special character string on the mobile telephony device.

  • Patent number: 8553653
Abstract: An arrangement and method for channel mapping in a UTRA TDD HSDPA wireless communication system by applying interleaving functions in first (530) and second (540) interleaving means to a bit sequence to produce symbols for mapping to physical channels, the first and second interleaving means being arranged to map symbols from respectively systematic and parity bits in a predetermined scheme, e.g., mapping symbols in a forward direction when a channel has an even index number, and in a reverse direction when a channel has an odd index number. The symbols may comprise bit-pairs, each of a systematic bit and parity bit. Systematic bits are preferably mapped to high reliability bit positions in TDD HSDPA, achieving a performance gain of between 0.2 dB and 0.5 dB. The forwards/reverse mapping allows a degree of interleaving that improves system performance in fading channels or channels disturbed by short time period noise or interference.

  • Patent number: 8548003
Abstract: Systems and methods for transporting data between two endpoints over an encoded channel are disclosed. Data transmission units (data units) from the source network are received at an encoding component logically located between the endpoints. These first data units are subdivided into second data units and are transmitted to the destination network over the transport network. Also transmitted are encoded or extra second data units that allow the original first data units to be recreated even if some of the second data units are lost. These encoded second data units may be merely copies of the second data units transmitted, parity second data units, or second data units which have been encoded using erasure correcting coding. At the receiving endpoint, the second data units are received and are used to recreate the original first data units.
