Abstract: In an embodiment of the disclosure, there is provided a method to reduce porosity in a composite structure. The method adds an additive to a resin material to form an additive-resin mixture. The method combines the additive-resin mixture with reinforcement fibers to form a composite prepreg material, and in turn, a composite structure. The method heat cures the composite structure in a heating apparatus under a vacuum device at the resin cure temperature, heats the composite structure to an increased temperature above the additive phase transition temperature, and maintains the increased temperature for a time period sufficient. The method reduces the increased temperature back down to the resin cure temperature to allow the additive gas to undergo a phase transition to a condense phase, resulting in a substantially reduced vacuum pressure, resulting in a reduction in a porosity of the composite structure.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of fabrication of a multilayer flexible metamaterial can be fabricated using flip chip transfer (FCT) technique. This technique is different from other similar techniques such as metal lift off process, which fabricates the nanostructures directly onto the flexible substrate or nanometer printing technique. It is a solution-free FCT technique using double-side optical adhesive as the intermediate transfer layer and a tri-layer metamaterial nanostructures on a rigid substrate can be transferred onto adhesive first. Another embodiment of the present invention is the fabrication method and apparatus that allows the transfer of the metamaterial from a rigid substrate such as glass, quartz and metals onto a flexible substrate such as plastic or polymer film. Thus, a flexible metamaterial can be fabricated independent of the original substrate used.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed toward extractable tooling devices for composite structure manufacturing. An extractable tool, according to some embodiments of the invention, can include a rigid core, one or more foam blocks, an elastic membrane, and a nozzle. The foam blocks can be shaped to provide a mold of the composite structure being manufactured. This mold may require the extractable tool to be trapped by the composite structure after manufacture. Use of the foams can allow the extractable tool to shrink in at least one dimension in order to extract the tool from the trapped configuration.

Abstract: Objects are fastened to object surfaces of a porous or fibrous material, in particular made of wood or a wood-like material, with the aid of a thermoplastic fastening film. For this, the object, which is separate from, or integrated in the fastening film, is positioned on the object surface and, with the aid of a vibrating fastening tool having a distally arranged, for example closed, perimetric profile element, which is positioned on the fastening film, is anchored in the object surface along a perimeter, and optionally also punched out. The fastening is suitable in particular for fastening identification carriers to wooden objects such as pallets or tree trunks, wherein the identification carriers are equipped, for example, with an antenna and an RFID chip or with a bar code.
