  • Patent number: 5743140
Abstract: A starter motor attachment angle adjusting method and apparatus which enable a starter motor to be attached to an internal combustion engine in a variety of rotational positions are disclosed. The apparatus includes an adaptive ring with a plurality of threaded position defining holes, and an adapter with a plurality of holes by which the adapter is securely connected to the adaptive ring by bolts. The position defining holes in the adaptive ring allow the adapter to be rotationally repositioned with respect to the adaptive ring. The adaptive ring is connected to the starter motor and the adapter is connected to the engine. Hence, the starter can be attached to the engine in a variety of rotational positions. Further, the apparatus allows rotational repositioning without interfering with transverse securing bolts which connect the adapter to the engine. Alternatively, the adaptive ring has a polygonal outer edge which interlocks in a plurality of rotational positions with a recess formed in the adapter.

  • Patent number: 5421550
Abstract: It is common in the design of modern day construction equipment to utilize one or more hydraulic systems that may require the use of a pressurized accumulator. Since the rating requirements for the respective systems can vary from country to country, it is necessary to provide mountings for various sizes of accumulators. In some instances an entire mounting apparatus has been required for each size adding needlessly to the expense and complexity of the mounting design, In the subject invention, a mounting apparatus is provided for accumulators that utilizes a pair of vertically spaced brackets. Mounting fasteners are provided that are centered on an axis that is spaced from a wall of the machine a distance greater than the radius of the largest accumulator that will be utilized. Being so positioned, the same mounting fasteners may be utilized to mount accumulators of various diameters.

  • Patent number: 5372343
Abstract: A quick and easy mounting and dismounting of a syringe holder to and from a syringe holder mount of a dispensing device of, for example, a bonding machine is accomplished by a combination of a locking member of the syringe holder mount and an engagement recess of one of two attachment pins of the syringe holder. The locking member is urged, via a spring force and at right angles, towards one of two attachment holes formed in the syringe holder mount. The two attachment pins are inserted into the attachment holes of the syringe holder mount when the syringe holder is mounted, and the tip end of the locking member is brought, via the spring force, to engage with the engagement recess of the attachment pin, thus retaining the syringe holder on the syringe holder mount. When dismounting the syringe holder from the mount, the locking member is pulled, thus releasing the engagement between the tip end of the locking member and the engagement recess of the attachment pin.

  • Patent number: 5147018
Abstract: A hydraulically-operated piston device installed between the frame of a structure and a vibration-resisting element provided separately from the frame varies the rigidity of the frame by changing the condition of connection between the frame and the vibration-resisting element. A valve controls the operation of the piston device and can be adjusted to change the coefficient of damping of the piston device. To obtain maximum rigidity of the frame, the piston is hydraulically locked in place. For maximum flexiblity of the frame, the piston can be hydraulically released from a locked position to move freely. Hydraulic resistance to movement of the piston can be graduated by metering the flow of oil into and out of the piston device. The coefficient of damping is a function of the metered flow of hydraulic fluid in the piston device.

  • Patent number: 4715568
Abstract: A wedge plate has a substantially planar, rock-engaging surface and a friction surface converging with the rock-engaging surface at a non-overhauling angle to define a thick end portion of the wedge plate. A flexible tube or frame is secured to the thick end portion of the wedge plate and extends away therefrom. A body has a surface one portion of which is engageable with a rock surface and the other portion of which slidably engages the friction surface of the wedge plate. A flexible wire extends through or alongside the flexible tube or frame. The wire and tube or frame are severally connected to the wedge plate and to the body. Individual hand grips on the tube or frame and wire permit manual sliding of the wire in the tube or frame and corresponding sliding of the body and the wedge plate. • Patent number: 4712754
Abstract: The invention is an anchoring device for releasably anchoring within a crack in a rock face, the crack having a pair of opposed crack walls. The device has a cam member, a load cable, and expansion and retraction structure. The cam member has convexly curved cam surfaces which contact respective walls of the crack. An inner end portion of the load cable cooperates with the cam member, and an outer end portion of the cable has a loop to cooperate with a separate link or rope. An intermediate portion of the cable cooperates with shoulders of the cam member in such a manner as to rotate the cam member in first direction when the cable is pulled. This increases force acting on the crack walls and augments retention of the device within the crack. The expansion structure automatically rotates the cam member in the first direction, thus tending to initiate retention of the device within the crack.
