Abstract: This disclosure provides techniques for the creation of maps of indoor spaces. In these techniques, an individual or a team with no mapping or cartography expertise can contribute to the creation of maps of buildings, campuses or cities. An indoor location system can track the location of contributors in the building. As they walk through indoor spaces, an application may automatically create a map based on data from motion sensors by both tracking the location of the contributors and also inferring building features such as hallways, stairways, and elevators based on the tracked contributors' motions as they move through a structure. With these techniques, the process of mapping buildings can be crowd sourced to a large number of contributors, making the indoor mapping process efficient and easy to scale up.

Abstract: When a navigation apparatus generates, in the course of learning a new road, shape points information of the new road as well as new road information and connecting road information which respectively specify a road name, road attributes and other features of the new road and connecting roads, the generated information regarding the new road is examined if a corresponding road that corresponds to the new road is registered in case that a map database used by the navigation apparatus is updated. If the corresponding road is found in the updated map database, the generated information of the new road such as the shape points information is deleted, thereby securely invalidating the generated information that became unnecessary due to the update of the map database.

Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein may relate to methods, apparatuses, systems, devices or articles for generating or using an indoor likelihood heatmap, etc. For certain example implementations, a method for a device may comprise projecting multiple grid points over a schematic map of an indoor area, with the schematic map indicating multiple obstructions of the indoor area. Feasible paths between grid point pairs of the multiple grid points may be determined. For a particular grid point of the multiple grid points, a count of the feasible paths that traverse the particular grid point may be determined. A likelihood heatmap for use in one or more navigational applications may be generated based, at least in part, on the count. Other example implementations are described herein.

Abstract: An indoor area may be localized to provide end users with a mobile-accessible map to guide the end user in navigating the indoor area. A preliminary version of a map of the indoor area to be localized is processed to identify different navigable routes within the indoor area. A user may access the processed map and collect sensory data using the mobile device while moving along any of the navigable routes. The different sensory data that is collected at the same moment in time may be associated based on the location of the mobile device when the data is collected. The localized map is then generated with visual indications of the locations of the corresponding sensory data. The end user may then access the localized map on a mobile device to navigate the indoor area and to locate specific points of interest corresponding to the sensory data.

Abstract: A portable navigation device and method are capable of presenting a destination direction to a user without resorting to visual sensation with a relatively simple configuration. Vibration elements are disposed on or in different positions of a housing. The respective vibration intensities of the vibration elements are determined on the basis of an angular difference ? between a destination direction Vn and a terminal direction Vd. The vibration elements are respectively controlled in accordance with the determined vibration intensities. The position of a vibration, which is obtained as a result of blending vibrations of the vibration elements is sensed by a user.

Abstract: In certain embodiments, determining maritime paths includes accessing a feasibility matrix comprising feasibility values for locations of an area. A feasibility value indicates navigability at a location. One or more non-navigable locations represent one or more barriers. Waypoints around the barriers are determined. A cost matrix comprising cost values is calculated. A cost value indicates a distance between two points of a set of points, where the set of points comprises one or more start points, one or more end points, and the waypoints. Dijkstra's technique is applied to a selected start point and a selected end point to yield a shortest length path between the selected start point and the selected end point.

  • Patent number: 8818710
Abstract: The present invention is a computer-implemented system for providing guidance information to aid a user in traveling along an off-road route. This system assumes that the route has already been determined. Also, it is assumed that the user's position and orientation can be determined, for example using existing techniques such as the global positioning system (GPS). The present invention uses a Look-Ahead-Point Finder (100) to find a point, which we refer to as a look-ahead point, located on the route ahead of the user's current location. A Guidance Message Constructor (102) and a Guidance Presenter (106) are used to present the user with guidance information directing him towards the look-ahead point. If the user is already headed towards the look-ahead point, then a Turn Analyzer (108) is used to search the route in order to find the next turn location.

Each zone of influence is an enclosed space defined by geolocational data. At least one of the zones of influence is associated with an event for performance by a user and a time for the event to occur. A location of the user is identified and compared with the geolocational data for each of the zones of influence. Abstract: Vehicle range projection includes detecting, via a vehicle antenna, a key fob within range of the vehicle. The key fob is associated with an individual. The vehicle range projection also includes searching, via a computer processor embedded in the vehicle, a database for a record having an identifier that matches an identifier of the key fob. The record stores historical drive cycle data associated with the key fob and the individual. The vehicle range projection further includes retrieving the historical drive cycle data and calculating a projected electric range value indicative of a distance in which the vehicle is capable of traveling on electric-only power. The projected electric range value is calculated as a function of a distance calculated based on available battery charge that is adjusted based on a driving style of the individual. The driving style of the individual is determined from the historical drive cycle data.
