  • Patent number: 8440856
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for working up residues from production of isocyanates. This process involves hydrolyzing residues from production of at least one isocyanate with water to form a hydrolysis product, and processing the hydrolysis product within an extruder or a kneader having a heat transfer surface, to form a mixed product containing at least one amine and water. The amine and the water are separated from the mixed product to form an amine/water mixture, which is then separated to obtain the water and the amine. The process may also involve separating all or part of the water from the hydrolysis, or separating part of the amine from the hydrolysis, prior to the processing of the hydrolysis product.

Abstract: Novel substrates for detection of activity of amyloid beta degrading enzyme, such as Neprilysin (NEP) and insulin degrading enzyme (IDE), associated with Alzheimer's disease, are provided. A quenched fluorogenic peptide substrate containing the first seven residues of the A?peptide plus a C-terminal Cys residue to detect neprilysin activity with a fluorophore attached to the C-terminal Cys and a quencher linked to the N-terminus of the peptide is disclosed. An assay system sensitive to endopeptidase activity of NEP and IDE, but insensitive to other A?-degrading enzymes is disclosed. Active compounds are identified by a cell-based assay system for high-throughput screening.

  • Patent number: 8410311
Abstract: Cyano-substituted anthracene containing polyamines were synthesized and shown to be efficient polyamine transporter ligands. Moreover, these compounds (3 and 4) had improved fluorescence properties over previously known anthryl-polyamine conjugates, which facilitated their intracellular trafficking by confocal microscopy. These cytotoxic fluorescent agents may find use as molecular probes which traffic into cells via the polyamine transport system and may also be viable anticancer drugs which are readily quantified in human tissues due to their excellent fluorescence properties: (excitation: ? 405 nm) and emission (420 nm) occurs in the visible light range. The ability to excite and emit in the visible range provides an advantage to these probes as these wavelengths are not toxic to human cells (versus ultraviolet mediated excitations, ?<400 nm) and visible light lasers are less costly to purchase and operate than UV laser sources.
