Safety And Protection Of Systems And Devices Patents (Class 361/1)
  • Patent number: 7312716
Abstract: A wireless circuit setup is used in a hazardous area where the circuit is intrinsically safe and does not require explosion proof containment. In this setup, an intrinsically safe master barrier (420) is used without the use of a resistor and one or more resistors (R1, R2, R3) are placed in at least one final barrier at the output end prior to the signal exiting the system. The use of resistors (R1, R2, R3) at the final barrier reduces the loss of power and speed. Optionally, in this setup, the antenna can be located remotely from the remaining components of the wireless transceiver. The antenna can also be connected the optional device using the same cable that shows the communication status information, such as transmit/receive status, signal strength, power, etc, in hazardous area.

Abstract: A method and a device for shutting down a drive during a power outage are disclosed. The method and device include a matrix converter, several commutation capacitors on the power line side, a switch unit on the power line side and a resistor unit. During a power outage, the matrix converter is immediately disconnected from the power supply, and the resistor unit is connected to the input terminals of the matrix converter in such a way that the amplitude of a voltage applied to the resistor unit equals the amplitude of an actual capacitor voltage space vector, and the speed setpoint is set to zero. This enables a drive with a matrix converter to be shut down during a power outage by way of a pulsed resistor.

Abstract: A technique is provided for determining service intervals for devices, such as medical equipment. Data related to a device is collected and compared to data from a population of like devices. A service interval may be calculated based on the comparison. The data regarding the population of like devices may be raw quantitative or qualitative data or may be processed data, such as may be used to graph the reliability of the device as a function of some variable such as usage or age, i.e. a reliability curve. The data may representative of the device as a whole or one or more components of the device. Multiple service intervals may be generated for a single device by calculating a service interval for each data source, such as a component or subset of components, of the device. An optimal service interval may then be selected. In addition, the technique may be applied for selection of a service interval for more than one device.

Abstract: The operating voltage of an integrated circuit (e.g., a processor) is changed in response to one or more conditions (e.g., a laptop computer is connected to an AC power source). Both the operating frequency and the operating voltage of the integrated circuit are changed. The voltage regulator providing the operating voltage to the integrated circuit is caused to transition between voltage levels using one or more intermediate steps. The integrated circuit continues to operate in the normal manner both at the new voltage and throughout the voltage transition.

Abstract: A land grid array socket comprises an insulative housing having a plurality of contacts. The insulative housing has a top surface for receiving a land grid array package. A cover member is pivotally mounted on a first end of the insulative housing. The cover member is pivotal between an open position and a closed position where the cover member presses the land grid array package toward the top surface of the insulative housing so that the land grid array package electrically connects to the contacts. A lever is pivotally mounted on a second end of the insulative housing. The lever has a locking portion for locking the cover member in the closed position. A metallic reinforcing plate is positioned on a bottom surface of the housing. The metallic reinforcing plate extends between the first end and the second end of the insulative housing.

Abstract: A frequency regulator protection circuit for controlling acceleration of electric vehicle comprises a power unit, a display unit, a protection unit, a control unit, a sensor unit, a data processor unit, a trigger unit, a regulator unit, and an output unit. The control unit receives a rotation speed signal from a motor. The sensor unit detects whether there is a current overload and delivers a corresponding overload signal to the data processor unit that consequently outputs a frequency change signal to the trigger unit which, in turn, delivers a first regulation signal to the regulator unit. The output unit further delivers a second regulation signal to the regulator unit, corresponding to different situations of insufficiency of pedal control, brake control, over-speed control, or motor overload. The regulator unit consequently effectuates an adequate cutoff of power supply.

Abstract: A mounting structure is provided to mount, on the same circuit board, two types of electrical parts in each of which an operating member is rotatably supported by a housing including sliders and a conductive pattern, such as a contact pattern, and which are similar in arrangement of terminals to extend terminal-insertion holes of the circuit board. Each of the electrical parts has a positioning protrusion protruding from its bottom face, and the position of the positioning protrusion differs according to the type of the electrical part. In a mounting region of the circuit board for each electrical part, a positioning hole is provided in which only the positioning protrusion of the corresponding electrical part can be inserted. Preferably, the positioning protrusion protrudes from a bottom face of a bottom plate member attached at the bottom of the housing.

Abstract: An information process of various kinds of haptic information such as a temperature, pressure, and the like, which is approximate to human haptic sense, is easily achieved in a wide variety of applications in different fields such as detection of various three-dimensional patterns, the surface states of paper and the like, an input device to an information apparatus, and the like without damaging a device. To this end, a single haptic information element simultaneously handles a plurality of kinds of information, i.e., a temperature and pressure, using a ferroelectric or pyroelectric which responds to both the temperature and pressure. Furthermore, not only these pieces of information are detected, but also some or all pieces of detected information are expressed under the control using an external power supply by forming the ferroelectric or pyroelectric on a hollow space structure, i.e., a cantilever or simple beam.

Abstract: A power switching device has a power switching transistor connected in series in a load circuit with an inductive load portion and a commutation circuit. The commutation circuit is connected in parallel with the gate-drain or base-collector path of the power transistor and has a first Zener diode, which determines the commutation clamping voltage for switching on the power switching transistor during commutation, and an oppositely biased normal diode that is connected in series with the first Zener diode. The commutation circuit further has control elements in order to reduce, during a short time, the commutation clamping voltage at the beginning of each commutation cycle or after an adjustable delay from the beginning of each commutation cycle.

Abstract: A drive circuit includes a gate voltage detector that detects a gate-emitter voltage Vge that appears between the gate and emitter of a power semiconductor device throughout a detection time period during which a sampler allows the process of detecting the gate-emitter voltage Vge, and that recognizes the occurrence of an abnormality in the power semiconductor device when the gate-emitter voltage Vge exceeds a reference value. Therefore, the drive circuit can protect the power semiconductor device with higher reliability by promptly detecting the occurrence of a short circuit even when the power semiconductor device is resistant to high voltages.
