Abstract: A method tolerates virtual to physical address translation failures. A translation request is sent from a graphics processing device to a translation mechanism. The translation request is associated with a first wavefront. A fault notification is received within an accelerated processing device (APD) from the translation mechanism that a request cannot be acknowledged. The first wavefront is, stored within a shader core of the APD if the fault notification is received. The first wavefront is replaced with a second wavefront if the fault notification is received, the second wavefront being ready to be executed.

Abstract: A method to prevent failure on a server computer due to internally and/or externally induced shock and/or vibration. The method includes acquiring, by at least one sensor, analog acceleration data of components in a server computer. The data is then converted to digital format and stored within a motor drive assembly processor memory unit. The processor analyzes the stored data for existence of machine degradation. In response to detecting the existence of machine degradation, the motor drive assembly processor initiates remediation procedures. The remediation procedures include controlling rotating speed of moving devices or performing a complete system shut down.

Abstract: A memory system includes a management-information restoring unit. The management-information restoring unit determines whether a short break has occurred referring to a pre-log or a post-log in a NAND memory. The management-information restoring unit determines that a short break has occurred when the pre-log or the post-log is present in the NAND memory. In that case, the management-information restoring unit determines timing of occurrence of the short break, and, after selecting a pre-log or a post-log used for restoration, performs restoration of the management information reflecting these logs on a snapshot. • Patent number: 8438308
Abstract: To address shortcomings in the prior art, the invention uses fate sharing information to compute backup paths. Fate sharing information relates groups of nodes or links according to common characteristics, attributes, or shared resources (e.g., a shared power supply, close proximity, same physical link). In one embodiment, fate-sharing information includes costs associated with groups of nodes or links. When a primary path contains a link or node that is in a fate-sharing group, the other links or nodes in the fate-sharing group are assigned the cost associated with that fate-sharing group. The node computing the backup path takes into account the assigned cost together with other node and link costs. Discovering the existence of the relationships and assigning costs to the groups may be done manually or automatically.

When BIOS data in the computer are damaged, the computer system may update and recover the BIOS of the storage unit of the computer system in a standby mode via an external electronic device (another computer or a USB flash disk). The computer system includes a storage unit, a data transferring interface, a power supply unit, and a control unit. The computer system is electrically connected with the external electronic device via the data transferring interface. The power supply unit provides standby power (in the standby mode) when the computer system is shut down. The control unit is electrically connected with the power supply unit and the data transferring interface, respectively. The control unit is actuated via the standby power, receives the external BIOS stored in the external electronic device.

Abstract: Redundancy of data and/or Inline Power in a wired data telecommunications network from a first network device and a second network device configured as power sourcing equipment (PSE) devices and coupled together and to a third network device (such as a PD) via a Y device is provided by providing redundant signaling to/from each of the pair of network devices, and coupling a port of each of the network devices to the Y device and from there to a third port where a third network device such as a PD may be coupled. Because the Y device is essentially passive, communications paths between the PSE devices and the PD are provided for negotiating master/slave status and other status and related information among the respective network devices. Dynamic impedance matching is provided to handle situations where not all devices are plugged in and as a communications technique among the devices.

  • Patent number: 8381012
Abstract: An apparatus and method for fault-tolerant and spread spectrum clocking. In one embodiment a master clock synthesizer circuit generates an output clock signal of varying frequency within a predetermined range of frequencies. A slave clock synthesizer circuit is provided to track the output clock signal generated by the master clock synthesizer circuit. If the master clock synthesizer circuit fails or generates an invalid output clock signal, the slave clock synthesizer circuit takes over and functions as the master clock synthesizer circuit. In one embodiment a method of fault-tolerant spread spectrum clocking includes generating a first digital data stream; receiving the first digital data stream, a first input reference signal and a first clock signal in a master clock synthesizer circuit; generating an first output clock signal of varying frequency by the master clock synthesizer circuit in response to the first digital data stream and the first clock signal.

  • Patent number: 8381013
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting and handling peer faults in a Peer-to-Peer network are disclosed. A peer in the P2P network receives a diagnosis request message; then detects whether a peer is faulty according to a preset fault detection method; and sends a diagnosis response message to a source peer that constructs the diagnosis request message or a peer specified by the diagnosis request message, where the diagnosis response message carries a detection result, and the detection result carries information about the faulty peer if the peer is detected as faulty. Through the technical solution under the present invention, the faults of the peers on the forwarding path in the P2P network can be detected.

Abstract: Device component information (physical information, logical information) on each device such as a host computer, a switch, and storage on the SAN is acquired via an LAN 9. Element information is created from the acquired device component information. According to the element information, a link between element information is created. Furthermore, when a plurality of links are established for an element, information is stored in advance so as to be used for selecting one of the links. Thus, each element stored the minimum information for routing and it becomes possible to search an associated element more effectively.
