  • Patent number: 10694443
Abstract: A method of operation of a wireless communication device to perform handover in a wireless communication system is provided. The wireless communication device performs a beam tracking procedure for one or more neighbor cells to provide, for each neighbor cell, a list of tracked beams for the neighbor cell. The wireless communication device receives a handover command from a source radio access node that instructs the wireless communication device to perform a handover from a source cell served by the source radio access node to a target cell served by a target radio access node. The target cell is one of the neighbor cells for which the beam tracking procedure is performed. The wireless communication device selects a beam of the target cell from the respective list of tracked beams based on random access resource configuration and/or a quality threshold and performs random access on the selected beam.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for causing active hand-in of a device from a macrocell base station to a femto node, which can be an inter-frequency hand-in. The femto node can broadcast a beacon, which can be received and reported by a device to a source base station along with one or more parameters. The source base station can communicate a handover message to the femto node or a related femto gateway along with the one or more parameters. The femto node or femto gateway can disambiguate the intended target femto node based in part on the one or more parameters, which can include applying one or more filters. Applying the one or more filters may include applying an UL RSSI filter to the one or more femto nodes to determine whether presence of the device causes a rise in UL RSSI measured at the one or more femto nodes.

  • Patent number: 10681203
Abstract: A processor-based personal electronic device (such as a smartphone) is programmed to automatically respond to data sent by various sensors from which the user's activity may be inferred. One or more alarms on the device may be temporarily disabled when sensor data indicates that the user is asleep. One or more of the sensors may be worn by the user and remote from the device. A wireless communication link may be used by the device to obtain remote sensor data. Data from on-board sensors in the device—such as motion sensors, location sensors, ambient light sensors, and the like—may also be used to deduce the user's current activity. User data (such as calendar entries) may also be used to determine likely user activity and set alarms accordingly. Biometric data from a second, nearby person may also be used to automatically select certain alarm modes on a first person's device.

  • Patent number: 10681592
Abstract: When a UE is served by a first radio access network (RAN) and is engaged in a voice call such as a VoIP call, a determination will be made that the UE is at an edge of coverage (e.g., threshold poor coverage) of the first RAN and that there is no other adjacent coverage of the first RAN that could support the voice call. In response, signaling will cause a second RAN to page the UE via the first RAN so as to cause the UE to transition from being served by the first RAN to being served by the second RAN. More generally, when a UE has poor coverage of its serving RAN, another RAN will pull the UE to the second RAN by paging the UE to trigger transition of the UE from to the second RAN.
