Abstract: The present sheet separation technique provides easy means to separate thin sheets of paper. Slight bulges of various forms that do not nest together with adjacent sheets are formed in the sheets so that each sheet stands slightly free from its neighbors at or near such bulges so long as a sheet is not weighted down significantly. When weighted significantly, such as by numerous overlying pages, the sheet becomes flat as in the usual present form not having such features. In a preferred form, parts of at least some of the bulges extend to, or near, one or more edge locations.

The process allows dissimilar materials to be injection molded to form a single, injection molded part by creating a structural interlock between the materials to prevent the materials from separating. The structural interlock is formed by forming at least one interlock cavity adjacent to a interfacial surface of a first portion of a molded part molded from a first material, and injecting a second, different material into the mold so that the second material flows into the interlock cavity and fills it. Abstract: The present invention provides for a plastic sheet, especially one used in the construction of a plastic trash bag, which provides improved tear propagation properties. The plastic sheet has a plurality of protuberances in the plastic sheet, the protuberances defining a first set of substantially parallel curvilinear lines in a first direction, and optionally, a second set of curvilinear lines in a second direction. The plurality of protuberances can be either indentations or protrusions in the plastic sheet, preferably formed through an embossing process. Preferably, the protuberances are circular in shape, but not necessarily uniform, and alternate between indentations and protrusions along the first, and possibly the second, curvilinear lines with the curvilinear lines preferably being wave-shaped.

Abstract: A pad is described comprising a padding layer and at least one sheet layer adjacent to the padding layer. The sheet layer is formed from a web of very fine fibers. The padding layer provides support for the patient. The sheet layer comprises a fabric material that is comfortable for the patient to use. The padding layer and the one or more sheet layer(s) exhibit a particular combination of properties such as high strength and high fluid absorption and retention properties. The pad provides a means for either adjusting a patient within a bed or for transferring a patient from one bed to another bed or medical table. The pad may also be used as part of a stretcher or separately as a bedroll. The pad may optionally contain gripping components and drapes.

Abstract: A process produces structures which are superimposed on one another in a metal foil section. The process includes producing a primary structure using a first tool, and transferring the metal foil section to a second tool, the second tool having at least one shaping profiled roller which is responsible for transferring the metal foil section. A secondary structure is produced using the second tool. A spatial position of the primary structure and the secondary structure is determined in at least one subregion of the metal foil section. An incorrect position is detected and an operating parameter of the at least one profiled roller is adapted in dependence on the detected incorrect position. An apparatus is suitable for this process and produces metal foils which are suitable for the production of catalyst support bodies that can be used in exhaust systems of internal combustion engines.

Abstract: The present invention provides multiple layer glazing bilayers that utilize a masking layer over the polymer film component. The masking layer is specifically formulated to have a melting point that is less than the temperature employed in the autoclave process that is used to laminate the bilayer. The surprising result of the use of the specified masking layer of the present invention is a bilayer that can be processed according to conventional lamination methods but with a reduction in the damage and optical defects that normally occur during processing and installation of the bilayer product. After installation, the masking layer can be removed, exposing the previously protected, underlying polymer film.

Abstract: Methods for forming freestanding objects primarily comprising aligned carbon nanotubes, as well as the objects made by these methods, are provided. Arrays of generally aligned carbon nanotubes are first synthesized on a substrate then released from the substrate and densified, maintaining the aligned arrangement. These densified arrays can take the form of thin strips which can be joined together, for example by lamination, to form larger objects of arbitrary size. These objects can be further cut or otherwise machined to desired dimensions and shapes. Release from the substrate can be accomplished mechanically, such as by shearing, or chemically, such as by etching. Densification can be accomplished, for example, through compaction or by taking advantage of capillary forces. In the latter case, an array is first wetted with a fluid and then dried. As the fluid is removed, capillary forces draw the nanotubes closer together.

Abstract: A molded cementitious architectural product for use in building construction has a cementitious body made of a molded cementitious material, the surface of which is polished (i.e., burnished) to better resemble natural stone. The polished surface is formed by exposing a portion of the molded cementitious material while in a green condition, more particularly after initial set but before final hardening of the hydraulic cement binder, and burnishing the surface before final hardening. Burnishing the surface of the green cementitious material before final hardening aligns the cement particles at the surface and seals the surface. The inclusion of an organic polymer binder within the cementitious material, such as an acrylic or latex polymer, assists in creating a polished surface resembling natural polished stone. The extent of cement hydration may be determined by monitoring the temperature of the cementitious material within the mold.
