Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to methods for large area graphene precipitation onto glass, and associated articles/devices. For example, coated articles including graphene-inclusive films on substrates, and/or methods of making the same, are provided. A metal-inclusive catalyst layer (e.g., of or including Ni and/or the like) is disposed on the substrate. The substrate with the catalyst layer thereon is exposed to a precursor gas and a strain-inducing gas at a temperature of no more than 350-600 degrees C. for 10s or 100s of minutes. Graphene is formed and/or allowed to form both over and contacting the catalyst layer, and between the substrate and the catalyst layer, in making the coated article. The catalyst layer, together with graphene formed thereon, is removed, e.g., through excessive strain introduced into the catalyst layer as associated with the graphene formation. Products including such articles, and/or methods of making the same, also are contemplated.

Abstract: A modular LED light bulb is presented. The bulb comprises a bulb envelope and a removable screw base. A power supply within the bulb envelope connects to an electrolytic capacitor within the screw base. When the electrolytic capacitor in the screw base requires replacement, the screw base is detached from the bulb envelope, the depleted electrolytic capacitor is discarded, and a new electrolytic capacitor is connected to the power supply. The various embodiments increase the useful life of the LED light bulb. In another aspect, the screw base may be adapted to accept swappable modules to provide the light bulb with additional functionality. The swappable modules may provide the light bulb with wireless control and motion sensing.

Abstract: A corona igniter comprises an electrode with a central extended member extending along a central axis and a crown extending radially outwardly from the central extended member. The central extended member has an extended length and the crown has a crown length. The extended length is greater than the crown length such that the extended member approaches a piston more closely than the crown. In addition, the firing tips of the crown each present a first spherical radius which is less than a second spherical radius of the central extended member. Thus, if arcing occurs, it forms from the central extended member, rather than from the crown. Accordingly, the firing tips of the crown experience less wear and remain sharp. In addition, due to the sizes of the spherical radii, corona discharge is more likely to form from the firing tips than from the central extended member.

Abstract: A liquid-filled LED bulb including a base and a shell connected to the base forming an enclosed volume. The liquid-filled LED bulb also includes a plurality of LEDs attached to the base and disposed within the enclosed volume. A thermally conductive liquid is held within the enclosed volume and has a first index of refraction. The LED bulb also includes a ring structure disposed within the enclosed volume and immersed in the thermally conductive liquid. The ring structure has a second index of refraction that matches the first index of refraction. A phosphor material is disposed on, or dispersed within, the ring structure. A first amount of the thermally conductive liquid is disposed between the LEDs and the ring structure and a second amount of the thermally conductive liquid is disposed between the ring structure and the shell.

Abstract: Disclosed here are inventive systems and methods for a powertrain of an electric vehicle (EV). In some embodiments, said powertrain includes a continuously variable transmission (CVT) coupled to an electric drive motor, wherein a control system is configured to control the CVT and/or the drive motor to optimize various efficiencies associated with the EV and/or its subsystems. In one specific embodiment, the control system is configured to operate the EV in an economy mode. Operating in said mode, the control system simultaneously manages the CVT and the drive motor to optimize the range of the EV. The control system can be configured to manage the current provided to the drive motor, as well as adjust a transmission speed ratio of the CVT. Other modes of operation are also disclosed. The control system can be configured to manage the power to the drive motor and adjust the transmission speed ratio of the CVT taking into account battery voltage, throttle position, and transmission speed ratio, for example.
