  • Patent number: 8934928
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to methods, apparatuses and systems for providing a service, utilizing Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), to a user in a communications network. According to one example of the invention, a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) message is received from an unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) server or gateway. Relevant content is then retrieved from a database upon receiving the HTTP message. A USSD message content is created based on a set of parameters, the USSD message content is sent to the USSD server, and the relevant content may then be provided to a user terminal in a text message.

  • Patent number: 8934891
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus to facilitate the synchronization of oscillators between members of a Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) to form a self-synchronizing network (SSN). The network members are configured to broadcast information indicative of the reliability of their oscillator. Network members attempt to look for reliable sources such as those originating from a macrocell base station or GPS. If such a source is found, the member cell updates it clock accuracy confidence level number (CACL) to indicate this. Network members also share information regarding the frequency offsets between one another. Every cell member then applies a weighted average function to determine how to update its own oscillator and CACL value accordingly. Cell members can also update their functionality, such as RF power level, in response to varying degrees of CACL values. This operation results in a convergence of all cell members to the most accurate oscillator offset value.

  • Patent number: 8908864
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer readable media for detecting and mitigating address spoofing in messaging service transactions are disclosed. A messaging service firewall (MSF) separate from a short message service center (SMSC) receives a mobility management reply message (MMR) that is sent by a mobile location register element in response to an associated mobility management query (MMQ) and that includes a serving switch identifier. The MSF allocates a global title address (GTA) from a pool of GTAs and stores a correlation between the allocated GTA and the originating SMSC. The MSF replaces the serving switch identifier in the MMR with the allocated GTA and routes the modified MMR. The MSF then receives a messaging service message (MSM) that is addressed to the allocated GTA and that includes the purported originating SMSC. If the purported originating SMSC does not match the SMSC to which the GTA is correlated, the MSM is discarded.

Abstract: A communication system receives data that does not pertain to an attempted initial establishment of a communication. The communication system uses a new message format under an existing analog Caller ID standard. The communication system inserts the data (which can be in addition to existing Caller ID data) into a Caller ID message that uses the new message format. The communication system then sends the Caller ID message to a communication device/Private Branch Exchange (PBX)/contact center that can interpret the new message format. The communication device/PBX/contact center can use the data to further route the communication to a specific telephone and/or can use the data to display information such as Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates of a cell phone. The data can enhance the capabilities of devices and systems that currently work under the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

  • Patent number: 8862052
Abstract: In an NFC mobile communication device (3) an operating system, such as a JAVA operating system (J2ME), is able to start software applications (6) identifiable by application identifications (AID). The mobile communication device (3) is equipped with a secure memory device (2), e.g. configured as a SmartMX card, which comprises a first memory portion (2a) configured as a MIFARE memory. The mobile communication device (3) comprises NFC means (5) adapted to trigger a hardware interruption (INT), when the first memory portion (2a) has been accessed by an external RFID reader (1). The hardware interruption (INT) is detected by the operating system (J2ME) and causes it to access a pre-defined sector (S) of the first memory portion (2a), to read information from said sector (S) which is representative for an application identification (AID) and to start the software applications (6) associated to it.

  • Patent number: 8854985
Abstract: A system for wireless communication using ultrasonic signals that includes a transmission module, which receives input signals from a wireless device, modifies the received input signals in a manner that converts each received input signal into a corresponding ultrasonic signal and wirelessly transmits each said ultrasonic signal over an ultrasonic link, and a receiving module, which receives the transmitted ultrasonic signals, recovers the corresponding input signals therefrom and enables outputting each respective input signal through one or more output devices. Modification of the input signals may include compressing, encoding and modulating the input signals. The input signals may be voice audio signals for enabling to use the system for supporting phone calls by enabling ultrasonic communication between for instance, a wireless headset and a mobile phone.

  • Patent number: 8843110
Abstract: A communications method that gathers status information on a telematics-equipped vehicle before establishing a mobile-terminated data connection with that vehicle. In general, the communications method sends a status request message to a wireless carrier system that asks for certain status information on a particular telematics-equipped vehicle. After the wireless carrier system gathers the status information, it sends back a status response message. If the status response message indicates that the telematics-equipped vehicle is able to receive certain data-related services, then a mobile-terminated data connection is established and the services are provided. If the telematics-equipped vehicle is unable to receive the data-related services, then attempts are made to identify and resolve the problem.
