Abstract: A video decoder is provided. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) converts an analog video signal into a plurality of samples at a sampling rate. A main processing path collects a plurality of odd samples to provide a first decoded video output and synchronization information. A plurality of even samples is converted into a plurality of first converted samples at a first predetermined frequency by a sample rate converter, and then filtered by a filter to obtain a second Y signal. A buffer stores the second Y signal, and reads the second Y signal in response to the timing information. An output sample rate converter converts the buffered output into a plurality of second converted samples at a second predetermined frequency. A parallel-to-serial converter receives the first decoded video output and the plurality of second converted samples to drive a second decoded video output.

Abstract: Film-originated video detection is performed on an input video signal in each of regions into which an entire screen is divided. Based on the detection result, a case where there is not film-originated video is separated from a case where film-originated video covers the entire screen. When both a film region and a non-film region are contained, film-originated video detection is performed in sub-regions into which a region which has been determined to be a film region is subdivided. Based on the detection result, it is determined whether or not all the sub-regions are film regions. The determination is repeatedly performed until it is determined that all sub-regions are film regions. If it is determined that all sub-regions are film regions, a film-originated video region is determined, and the process is ended. Thus, a film-originated video region can be accurately detected in a screen containing film-originated video and non-film-originated video.

Abstract: This invention is an apparatus and method for digital processing of television like signals and in particular the use of oversampling and interpolation to achieve improved resolution of the digital version of such signals as compared to a digital version obtained by the use of simple A/D conversion or processing at the desired sample rate. The preferred embodiment utilizes oversampling, interpolation and various filtering in recursive and nonrecursive form to provide output video signals wherein the artifacts and distortion of the video are kept to low levels.

Abstract: A correction sampling signal generation circuit is disposed subsequent to a plural-stage sampling signal generation circuit for sequentially generating sampling signals in response to an input timing signal, an extended sampling circuit is disposed subsequent to a plural-stage sampling circuit for sampling a video signal at timing of the sampling signal, and a data signal is sampled at timing of the sampling signal generated by the extended sampling circuit. In a timing adjustment period, the data signal for adjustment is generated, the phases of the data signal and the timing signal are relatively shifted, the outputs of the sampling circuits are supplied to a common output line through respective switches, and the phase of the optimum timing signal or the video signal is determined based on the output from the common output line.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an image processor comprises an image converter and a controller. The image converter is configured to convert a first video signal of a first resolution to a second video signal of a second resolution higher than the first resolution. The conversion is based on a parameter indicating a ratio of high-frequency component pixels of the first video signal to be interpolated and pixels forming the first video signal to be interpolated. The controller is configured to change the parameter based on a type of broadcast wave of the first video signal. The type of broadcast wave may include, but is not limited or restricted to satellite broadcasting or terrestrial broadcasting.

Abstract: A computerized method is used to determine whether portions of a video are part of a continuous video segment. The method includes identifying a time code break in a plurality of time codes of a video by having a computing device examine the plurality of time codes of the video. The method also includes determining whether a first portion of the video located before the time code break and a second portion of the video located after the time code break are part of a continuous video segment by having a computing device examine the expected time code of the first frame of the second portion of the video and a location of the second portion of the video with respect to a location of the first portion of the video. Abstract: Gradient analysis may be utilized to determine frame and field repeat patterns in input video data. Those frame and field repeat patterns may then be analyzed to match them with characteristic patterns associated with telecine 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown video data, for example. In addition, a progressive detector may use combing analysis to determine whether or not a particular field is progressive or interlaced data. Then, this information, together with a field flag which indicates whether field or frame analysis is appropriate, may be utilized to distinguish telecine 2:2 or 3:2 pulldowns and interlaced and progressive data in some embodiments.
