  • Patent number: 8618960
Abstract: In response to receiving an input string to be compressed, a plurality of diverse lossless compression techniques are applied to the input string to obtain a plurality of compressed strings. The plurality of diverse lossless compression techniques include a template-based compression technique and a non-template-based compression technique. A most compressed string among the plurality of compressed strings is selected. A determination is made regarding whether or not the most compressed string was obtained by application of the template-based compression technique. In response to determining that the most compressed string was obtained by application of the template-based compression technique, the most compressed string is compressed utilizing the non-template-based compression technique to obtain an output string and outputting the output string.

  • Patent number: 8605829
Abstract: Teachings presented herein offer improved symbol block detection by including a decoder unit in a demodulation system. Utilizing a decoder unit in a demodulation system can significantly enhance symbol block detection because the decoder can produce bit likelihood values (soft bit values), and these bit likelihood values can be used to construct a set of candidate symbol values. Advantageously, this set of candidate symbol values is more likely to contain the actually transmitted symbol(s) than if the decoder unit was not used in the demodulation system.

  • Patent number: 8605788
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods used in motion estimation and particularly for data compression. Embodiments of the invention may store and operate on an n-bit value in less than n bits. In one embodiment, if the multi-bit value is less than a threshold, then the multi-bit value is stored in the reduced-bit storage directly, with no loss of precision. If the multi-bit value is greater than the threshold, then the Most Significant Bits (MSBs) of the multi-bit value are shifted onto the reduced-bit storage, and a compression flag set. To decompress, if the compression flag was not set, the bits stored in the reduced-bit storage are merely copied back into the multi-bit value directly. If the compression flag was set, then the bits stored in the reduced-bit storage are shifted (left) by the same amount they were shifted (right) during compression, and an error-minimizing value is added.

Abstract: The number of times of processing to increment the number of reserved bits in arithmetic coding processing is reduced. For this purpose, upon inputting a binary symbol, a zone is divided into two zones at a ratio between occurrence probabilities of MPS and LPS, and one of the divided zones is selected according to the input symbol. When the length of the selected zone is shorter than a predetermined length, normalization is performed. Then it is determined whether or not a threshold for determining a decimal place of interest exists within the zone of interest. When the threshold exists within the zone of interest, the number of reserved bits is incremented by one. When the threshold exists without the zone, 1-bit data determined based on a relative position between the zone of interest and the threshold is outputted, bit data corresponding to the number of reserved bits is determined and outputted, and the number of reserved bits is cleared to zero.

If the data mask signal is in the second state, a first subset of the data is encoded with data bus inversion and a second subset of the data is encoded differently from data bus inversion. Such encoding has the advantage that SSO noise is dramatically reduced when the encoded data is transmitted from one circuit to another circuit.

Abstract: The present invention relates to data manipulation and in particular incrementing, decrementing and comparing binary coded numbers, notably the manipulation of thermometer codes and the performance of arithmetic operations thereon. A method of processing data is provides which comprises receiving a series of data samples, each sample being represented as an N-bit thermometer code, wherein the most significant bit thereof represents the sign of the data sample value Y(n) and the remaining N?1 bits represent the magnitude of the data sample and executing a predetermined sequence of arithmetic operations directly on the series of N-bit thermometer code data samples to determine one of two values for each data sample, without any recoding of the thermometer code data samples.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for determining long binary sequences having low autocorrelation functions using evolutionary processes are disclosed. Biphase sequences are found with low peak sidelobe values meeting a predetermined criterion, e.g., threshold low auto-correlation function, including application of semidefinite programming in connection with determining an initial population, and evolving the population with an evolutionary algorithm to bits of the biphase sequences including bit flipping. The found biphase sequences can be communicated to a variety of applications, including wireless communications technologies.

Abstract: An encoding device enables the amount of processing operations to be significantly reduced while minimizing deterioration in the quality of an output signal. This encoding device (101) encodes an input signal by determining the correlation between a first signal generated by using the input signal and a second signal generated by a predetermined method. An importance assessment unit (202) sets the importance of each of a plurality of processing units obtained by dividing the frames of the input signal. A CELP coder (203) performs sparse processing in which the amplitude value of a predetermined number of samples among multiple samples constituted by the first signal and/or the second signal in each processing unit is set to zero according to the importance that was set for each processing unit, and calculates the correlation between the first signal and the second signal, either of which was subjected to sparse processing.
