  • Publication number: 20040003698
Abstract: A movable handle and a power tool. The power tool comprises a housing, a motor supported by the housing and operable to drive a tool element about an axis, and a handle supported by the housing for rotation relative to the housing about the axis. Preferably, the power tool is a circular saw. The circular saw further comprises a switch assembly supported on the handle for movement with the handle and means for connecting the switch to the motor to accommodate movement of the switch relative to the motor. The switch assembly is electrically connectable to the motor and selectively connects the motor to a power source, and the connecting means includes a wiring arrangement. The circular saw further comprises a locking assembly for locking the handle in a position relative to the housing.

Abstract: A guide for use with a cutting member, such as hand saws, that is easy to use, is readily portable and can be adjusted to permit cutting of precise compound angles on work pieces of various configurations. The guide mechanism comprises two angularly related members arranged so that when one member engages the face of a work piece, the other member functions to glidably engage a cutting member, such as the blade of a hand saw with the teeth thereof in cutting relation with said face of the work piece. In one form of the invention, locking mechanisms are provided to lock the member in any selected angular relation and a magnet is carried by the guide member which uniquely functions to continuously urge the saw into engagement with a plurality of rollers that are also carried by the guide member.

Abstract: The invention concerns a sawing device comprising a wire assembly (15) supported on wire-guiding rolls (11, 12) and pressed against a workpiece to be sawn (20) fixed on a support table (21). A oscillating device (23) enables to produce a relative reciprocating movement between the workpiece to be sawn and the wire assembly (15) around an oscillation axis (A) whereof the spatial position can be adjusted and programmed so that said oscillation axis (A) is at a programmable and adjustable distance from an effective axis of rotation (28) of the oscillating device (23). In one embodiment, the oscillating device (23) comprises therefor rotating members (27), and translating members along two directions (Z and Y) contained in the cutting plane, thereby enabling to obtain very planar sawn slices with very even surface texture and improved sawing efficiency.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for handling and cutting a flexible material that is wrapped around a load by means of a delivering device. The apparatus includes a clamp and cutter assembly having a trigger activated mechanism, and a trigger and roping assembly. The apparatus also includes a moving device for moving the trigger and roping assembly between active and retracted positions. In use, as the trigger and roping assembly is moved into its active position, the trigger engages with the trigger activated mechanism to move the clamp and cutter assembly to its open position, while the roper turns a portion of flexible material into a rope. As the trigger and roping assembly is retracted from its active position, the trigger disengages with the trigger activated mechanism to move the clamp and the cutter assembly in its closed position, thereby cutting the rope and holding a free end thereof.

  • Patent number: 5344506
Abstract: A shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator predeformed in compression actuates a cable cutter mechanism. A cable or other item to be cut is placed between an anvil and a movable blade affixed to the SMA element. The SMA element is heated by an electrical resistance heater to cause it to return to its undeformed elongated state, thereby moving the blade against the anvil to compress and sever the cable or other item. Ones of the shape memory alloy actuator have a plurality of parallelly arranged SMA elements, every other one of which is predeformed in compression and intermediate ones of which are predeformed in tension. The elements are coupled end-to-end so that, when they are heated to cause them to return to their undeformed states, their respective elongations and shrinkages combine at the output to produce an actuation that is the cumulation in the same direction of the changes of all the elements. The plurality of elements may be in a side-by-side or concentric arrangement.
