Abstract: The invention relates to an installation for soldering or for heat-treating workpieces (1) under a protective gas atmosphere, comprising a workpiece transportation apparatus (2), comprising an entrance (3) into the installation and an exit (4) out of the installation, comprising a combustion-gas or heating-gas stream (B) which is conducted separately from the protective-gas stream (S) and brings the protective-gas stream (S) to operating temperature, and comprising an insulating means (5) which surrounds the installation. A considerable amount of energy is saved in that, according to the invention, the combustion-gas or heating-gas stream (B) and the protective-gas stream (S) have approximately corresponding heat capacities and can be conducted through the installation in counterflow. The invention also proposes a process which is favourable in terms of energy.

Abstract: A method for producing a composite from at least two metal components that have perforations or openings, especially for producing a cooler or cooling elements or heat sinks that have at least one composite. The components are joined to each other to yield the composite by heating them to a process temperature while using a joining agent or joining surfaces defined by surface faces of the components. To produce components having complicated geometric shapes, thereby increasing their cooling capacity, at least a first component is not flat, and is joined to at least one flat or non-flat component to yield the composite.

Abstract: The invention concerns a heat exchanger and a method of producing thereof. The heat exchanger comprises a coolant housing with two opposing wide side walls and two header plates of an inlet air tank and an outlet air tank, respectively. The header plates are channel-shaped with longitudinal flanges extending over and being brazed to the wide side walls. Tubes extend in parallel through said housing between the two header plates, said tubes being brazed to apertures in said header plates. The coolant housing has two opposing narrow side walls tightly fitting said wide side walls and said header plates and defining together with these wide side walls and header plates a first coolant tank and a second coolant tank opposing the first one. Each air tank comprises a cowling tightly fitting and being brazed to one of said header plates each and having an air inlet and an air outlet, respectively.

Abstract: A foil for producing a metal honeycomb or catalyst carrier body, has an average surface roughness of more than 0.3 ?m (micrometers) on both surfaces in at least one measurement direction. Preferably, the foil is rolled and has an average surface roughness of more than 0.3 or 0.5 ?m, especially approximately 0.6 ?m, in the rolling direction and/or transverse thereto. The foil can have an oxide coating with a thickness between 60 and 80 or between 70 and 75 nm (nanometers) on both surfaces. Despite the roughness, an even thickness of the oxide coating with a tolerance of less than 10% or 5% is advantageous on both surfaces. The foil allows production of durable honeycomb bodies, especially for exhaust systems of internal combustion engines, requiring an exactly defined distribution and quality of compounds in the interior thereof. A honeycomb body and method of production using a foil, are also provided.

Abstract: A battery module includes an electrochemical battery cell having a pair of cell tabs and conductive interconnecting members having one or more interconnect extensions. The cell tabs are welded to different interconnecting members to form welded joints, and each interconnect extension is hemmed with respect to the cell tabs to overlap and reinforce the welded joint. The welded joint can be ultrasonically-welded, while the interconnecting member can have a generally U-shaped profile with side walls formed integrally with the interconnect extensions. A method of minimizing effects of a shearing stress in the battery module includes fusing a cell tab or tabs to the interconnecting member to form a welded joint, and then hemming an interconnect extension of the interconnecting member to form a hem seam overlapping the cell tabs. Fusing can include ultrasonically welding the cell tabs to the side walls or other suitable means.
