Abstract: Concrete compositions have a fine-to-coarse particulates ratio optimized for decreased viscosity and increased workability. The concrete compositions include at least water, cement, coarse aggregate, and fine aggregate and have a slump of at least 1 inch and a 28-day compressive strength of at least about 1500 psi. Workability is improved by minimizing the viscosity as a function of the particulates ratio. To improve workability, the concrete compositions include between 49-85% fine particulates (e.g., cement and fine aggregate) and between 15-51% coarse particulates as a percentage of overall particulates volume. For normal strength concrete (up to about 8500 psi, or 58.6 MPa), the fine particulates fraction comprises about 50-75% by volume of total particulates. For high strength concrete (>8500 psi, or 58.6 MPa), the fine particulates fraction comprises about 56-85% by volume of total particulates. Overall workability can be maintained or improved even if slump is decreased.

Abstract: This invention provides a concrete having excellent exploding resistance, comprising a fiber as one constituent material, wherein said concrete has a compressive strength of 50 N/mm2 or more, a bending strength of 6 N/mm2 or more, and a ratio of the bending strength to the compressive strength is 15 or less. Upon explosion of an explosive material near a structure, a part of the structure is separated by explosion energy. In general, the separation of the structure on the side opposite to the side facing explosion is larger than that of the side facing explosion, it could trigger collapse of concrete, and the separation on this side has a larger risk of injuring persons within the structure. Since the present invention has the effect of reducing a separated volume, it can be used for various structures as a concrete for lifesaving or for preventing the collapse of the structure.

Abstract: Described herein are new cementitious mortars with a high degree of fluidity and short consolidation times. The mortars contain water, a fast-setting cement, fluidifiers and/or superfluidifiers, setting regulators and aggregates having a specific granulometric distribution. The aggregates are made up of two fractions with different grain size such that the ratio between the characteristic grain diameters of the two fractions is comprised between 2.2 and 3.2. The new mortars thus obtained have values of fluidity 2-3 times higher than those of mortars produced with traditional aggregates; the increase in fluidity is obtained without increasing the water/cement ratio and without increasing the amount of fluidifiers present. The mortars produced according to the invention may be used to advantage in all applications in which it is required to associate a high degree of fluidity and a rapid consolidation.

Abstract: A premixed cement paste for use in medical or dental applications. The premixed cement paste remains fluid when stored in a hermetically sealed condition, but hydrates and hardens to set when placed in a physiological environment. The cement paste includes at least one calcium silicate compound and at least one substantially water-free liquid carrier mixed with the at least one calcium silicate compound; the substantially water-free liquid carrier avoids hydration of the mixture during storage, but undergoes exchange with aqueous physiological solutions so that the cement past hydrates and hardens to set when placed in a physiological environment. The paste may be placed in the physiological environment by injection, for example. The at least one calcium silicate compound may be, for example, calcium silicate, dicalcium silicate, tricalcium silicate, or mixtures thereof.

Self-healing takes place automatically at cracked locations without external intervention. In the exemplary embodiment, fiber-reinforced cementitious composites with self-controlled tight crack width less than 50 ?m and tensile ductility more than 2% are prepared. Self-healing in terms of mechanical and transport properties recovery of pre-damaged (by pre-cracking) composite is revealed in a variety of environmental exposures, include wetting and drying cycles, water permeation, and chloride submersion.

Abstract: A fiber-reinforced building material in one embodiment incorporates cellulose fibers that are chemically treated with a dispersant to impart improved dispersibility to the fibers. The fibers are treated with a dispersant which deactivates the hydroxyl sites of the fiber surfaces and in some cases, making the fiber surface more hydrophobic. The dispersant inhibits the hydroxyl groups on the cellulose fiber surface from bonding with hydroxyl groups of other fibers and from bonding with hydroxyl groups of the same fiber, thereby significantly reducing inter-fiber and intra-fiber hydrogen bonding. The treated fibers can be readily dispersed and uniformly distributed throughout a mixture without re-clustering or reclumping once the mechanical mixing action stops.
