  • Patent number: 8716864
Abstract: A DBA-based power device includes a DBA (Direct Bonded Aluminum) substrate. An amount of silver nanoparticle paste of a desired shape and size is deposited (for example by micro-jet deposition) onto a metal plate of the DBA. The paste is then sintered, thereby forming a sintered silver feature that is in electrical contact with an aluminum plate of the DBA. The DBA is bonded (for example, is ultrasonically welded) to a lead of a leadframe. Silver is deposited onto the wafer back side and the wafer is singulated into dice. In a solderless silver-to-silver die attach process, the silvered back side of a die is pressed down onto the sintered silver feature on the top side of the DBA. At an appropriate temperature and pressure, the silver of the die fuses to the sintered silver of the DBA. After wirebonding, encapsulation and lead trimming, the DBA-based power device is completed.

Abstract: A pipe connection and pipe and fittings to make a pipe connection that include either a bell plate ring or a complementary spigot ring, which can be readily joined together by welding to form a sealed joint. In particular the bell plate ring includes a tapered, such as a conical section, that has a larger outer diameter (that is closer to the end of the pipe section or fitting) and a smaller diameter in from said end of said pipe section or fitting. In this way the present invention provides an inner bell surface which is generally continuously tapered. In turn a complementary spigot ring is provided with a welding lip having an outer diameter that is between the larger and smaller diameters of the bell plate ring. In this way, when the spigot is inserted into the bell it is first guided by the taper and then an interference fit is made between the welding lip and the bell, which ensure continuous weldable contact between the spigot and the bell.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of joining a hub 11 and a shroud 12 of an impeller 10, either one of which has blades 13 integrally formed thereon, by welding. During the welding, in an upright state in which the hub 11 is placed to face a mount surface, the hub 11 and the shroud 12 are placed on top of each other to form an assembled body 10. Welding is performed on the assembled body 10 covered with a heat insulating jacket 30(a to g), the jacket 30 covering the assembled body 10 except an open region (OP) and an inflow port 14IN required for welding. When welding of one open region OP is completed, a new open region OP is formed by moving the heat insulating jacket 30 with respect to the assembled body, and then the next welding is performed.
